I went in last night, it was packed.
Dude, i'm going to give you exactly one guess why someone who can take two weeks of holiday any time he goddamn likes, might close his business for two weeks at the beginning of March?
Maybe he had a phone call from HMRC
I've not suggested that Andy can't take 2 weeks off. I merely asked why it was being closed because it could be for a variety of reasons.
If Andy is going on holiday, that's great. I hope he has a fantastic time. He deserves it.
Not sure why you needed to be rude. Be kind.
Seems all the regulars understand and fully support the temporary closure....
Same as last year......
I am a regular at the floodgate. I'm there at least once a week, if not more. Best pub in Stafford.
I'm planning a visit on Saturday (lock down permitting)! Are we back open again?
So it's gone,
It was run by such a wonderful family and frequented by such friendly people.
I recall once challenging some boozy gent with,
"You're John Marwood and I claim my £5s"
He sardonically replied
"Have you got a leaflet?'
Further recall leaving by the back door unable to walk and just about shuffle.
Too many names to mention all but full respect to: Fogmeister, The General, Pink Jim, Mal, Michelle, Pete, Phil, Jeff, Leo, Trevor, Bishop, Lee, and not forgetting the drunken (The Sun) pub quiz team...
It would appear not
Big shame for all. With current restrictions, I expect that the lack of outside and inside space was very limiting. I wonder how many drinking establishments will be finished off in the next few months
I hope not. If it has gone I will be gutted.
The Floodgate was my favourite pub. I'm also going to miss Andy. A top bloke.
Where has it been announced that it has closed down.
I was a regular in the floodgate. Always a brilliant pint on offer and knowledgable bar staff.
I sincerely someone takes it on.
wish Andy and his family well in the future.
Floodgate closed at the beginning of March for Inquest proceedings for a family member. A holiday was far from any of the family's minds. On their return COVID19 locked the pub down. They have been without business for 4 months. A small pub without a beer garden cannot trade effectively with current govt. guidelines.
I was hoping it wasn't true. I'm gutted that floodgate has closed and I didn't get to say goodbye.
Really really gutted.
I hope someone opens a micro brewery in stafford.
Floodgate was a fantastic pub and offered something unique to stafford. A huge loss.
Still in mourning....
A licensing application for the Floodgate has been made by the Rainy Day Group Ltd. The sole director and shareholder is Jack Taylor who was formerly the licensee of the Bear, from which he departed rather suddenly.
I thought I saw something in the window as I drove past. Not sure how they'll manage the current regulations in there.
