The Great Stafford Forum Outage of 2014

Jonah

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
I sat at my computer clicking "refresh" until my iMac got annoyed with me...

Then I realised it wasn't working and got sad...

I sat there wondering what to do....

I decided I had better get some work done...

And then I thought I'd tweet Admin...

Admin said they would try and fix the problem...

But a bit later it still wasn't working...

Then just after lunch I tried again...

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
And it WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't contain my excitement...

So now I'd like to give Admin a bug hug...

For fixing this great forum!

I expect Hop will be along in a while to tell us all how this could have been avoided. Speaking in tongues, obviously...

I have already said how most of the issues can be avoided in term of the data layer. Apart from my prior recommendations the server layer is based on php so I would looking to use a mongrel approach for load balancing the web servers.
I doubt Stafford forum could afford a CDN.
The data access could probably be massively tuned by using something similar to SqlDependancy offered in Ado.net.
I've used php over 10 years ago and thought perl was better. If I want to use a dynamic language today I would probably use clojure.
