No surprise there but sad allthesame

Reduced to 240k it may well have gone for less

The re opening of Seighford's Holly Bush may persuade the de listing from a pub

Sewers need urgent attention . ..

I was so disappointed to read the Facebook update from Rob this morning. He's been a really good manager with lots of energy and ideas. There was some suggestion that one of the factors taken into consideration when there is an application for change of use is whether the pub can be shown to make a profit. Since he has been there, it has been profitable. I doubt any objections are going to make a difference though - whoever bought it will just leave it standing empty until permission is a formality. A great shame.

Whom does one approach to ' delist ' a pub?

Do you mean "delist"? Listing/delisting is English Heritage. As far as I know The Hand & Cleaver is not a listied building, and even if it were that would have no relevance to change of use.

Change of use is a planning matter and would come under Stafford Borough Council. If you want to object to change of use for the H&C then you need to write to or email your councillorss (if you live in SBC area), the councillors in whose ward it lies, the planning department and the press. If it is closed and remains shut for any length of time bring your MP into the correspondence list. And the old adage about voting applies here, just change it to "write/email early and write/email often".

John Caudwell children's charity have the current offer on it ( apparently )

The same purchasers of the Yew Tree ( application for four dwellings on site )

Nearby neighbours at Ranton Abbey and Norbury estate are midway to planting quarter of a million hard wood trees ( taxing..)

And the Busby's have planted yet more strawberries

My understanding is that the Cleaver is sold and I am told to the Caudwell charity. It remains open, for how long I know not. The Sunday quiz evenings are my favourite time of the week. The tree-loving owner of the Ranton estate seems, purely, to be in it for the trees. I went on a walk a couple of weekends ago, which had permission to go through the abbey grounds, by the lake. All very lovely. It is certainly an extremely large area of trees - I was told 40,000 this year. I assume the walk leader meant this year as in the last 12 months. If it is 40,000 since New Year, Birnan will soon be heading for Creswell en route to Dunsinane.

Such a terrible shame. Rob has really brought the place to life. I can't believe it's the last quiz night this weekend. They have been such a lot of fun. I guess, now, the building will be left standing empty for ages like the Yew Tree. What can Mr Caudwell have against this area? Did he have a bad pint once?

I've had an enquiry from The Bell at Haughton asking if anyone would be interested in taking the Cleaver Sunday Pub Quiz there. I know some people will be interested as it has been brilliant fun - thanks Rob - so will be putting the question out there tomorrow night at the end of an era. If you are interested please let me know.
