the Lunar Scorpion and her ongoing struggle

I get in far too many debates (arguments) in everyday life, without feeling the need to get involved in all the conjecture on here. I read it all, and I find it very interesting and amusing.

If this was a mental health forum or something concerning general health i'd be more than happy for this thread, maybe in a more sedate manner. It's not, and I think it could be off-putting for potential new users. I like pie, beer, cheese, girls and music. All in a big bowl. Can't we just talk about that?

How do I edit this?

Mmmmmm............happy thoughts.

I won't comment on lunar scorpion specifically but I wanted to add some general thoughts to this thread. Firstly on the two occasions I have been out of work I hated it and found I struggled to find motivation for anything. I'd invent daft projects just to get myself out of bed in the morning, and found myself looking for anything that would keep me in a routine. It would have been very easy for me to give up and watch Trisha and I suspect given more than 6 weeks without gainful employment that's exactly what I'd have ended up doing.

I do have several friends who live on benefits and they seem to lose all perspective on things. For me a day with a sore throat is a day like any other only it hurts to swallow, for them it's a catastrophe and they'll cancel plans made months in advance. I believe a job would be beneficial (I'm not saying they could necessarily work btw) in that it might enable them to live through the minor problems.

Finally if it were as easy as everyone seems to think to spot the difference between a genuine depression sufferer and a benefit fraud via a message board, without a face to face meeting then the doctors would all be doing that, instead of spending so much effort and NHS money putting people through appointments, referrals and assessments to figure out what's wrong with them.

I was the same, been unemployed once and after 8 weeks or so I was climbing the walls. So I took a shop job, doing 10 hour days, which had sod all to do with any of my qualifications. I too would probably have become a mindless vegetable had I allowed it, TBH I found not having a job was depressing.

Anybody else see Horizon on Tuesday night?
If not, catch it on the Iplayer. Rather illuminating...

Cast:
10 volunteers, 5 of whom have had a diagnosis of mental illness.
3 mental health professionals who have to answer the question, "Which are the diagnosed 5?" based on observation of behaviour and a few interviews.

Will definitely be watching that Wookie....

But surely its easy to spot the mentals because they walk round with underpants on their head and pencils stuck up their nose..... :D

(Hope that doesn't offend anyone, its meant as a joke and comes from a blackadder episode I believe - i'm paranoid now about upsetting people)

...and the other thing they used to do in the Sudan is to get dressed up like this and pretend to be mad. But don't let me catch you trying that one, Baldrick, or I'll have you shot, all right?

The message was very clear.

Ooh! I actually have something to whinge about now...

The lovely people of the DWP have sent someone round to make sure I'm not having sex with my houseMATE (as in people who know each other quite well and aren't enemies, not involved in reproduction). The question is, would they have bothered if I was living with his girlfriend instead?

To top it off, he couldn't even get the right house - the folded up paper was put through next door's, which doesn't have a number on it, as opposed to the one I am in, which has the right number on it. Funny...

Lets be honest the only reason unemployment went down when Labour came into power is because they fabruicated thousands of jobs within local councils, and as such took people off the dole and gave them jobs which were outside of their skillsets / experience and due to the nature of the exercise (poorly conceived and funded) they received little training to fulfil these roles. As a result there are now many many council workers who are incompetant beyond belief; so in competant in fact that they can't even read the number of a house on the front door!

Edit: before anyone jumps on me I am not suggesting that people on the dole are incapable of working, just that they were given jobs which they weren't trained in ... it would be like taking me from my office, giving me some bricks and mortar and saying "lay that" - i honestly wouldn't have a clue!

Probably not.
But this seems to be the default assumption; if you're living with someone of the opposite sex you're automatically shagging each other's eyeballs out.

Spose you've considered writing to the council: "DSOM, when you sack the incompetent idiot who couldn't find my house, would you consider employing me for the position? Here's my CV and I promise I can find a house."?

@Shoes: You and Richard Littlejohn say that: how does one go about getting one of these useless non-jobs, do you know? :)

I'm sorry but I am highly offended. I have been a mental most of my life and have worked hard enough to afford a fountain pen for up my nose. I also don't wear pants on my head. In fact I don't wear them anywhere. :P

Sorry about that. After years of depression and OCD I've learned that humour is the only way to cope. Didn't mean to scare you!!!!
