Isn't there always a falafal burger?
There's always a veggie burger at the Vaults, but to make it nonanimal-y, the bread/bap/bun has to be vegan, no cheese obvs, a sauce (on the burger) could have been filtered using animals bones, etc etc

Like having a veggie option on a menu scared people back in the 80's and 90's, having a vegan option on a menu, makes some meat-eaters faint!
When the faintees come to (having read the v word in print and on paper), they expect to speak to the management to announce they are never to eat in their establishment, again.

TBH I don't really look into if things are veggie or vegan, and I very much doubt most meat eaters do either. You see falafal and skip on by, the only time this sort of thing becomes an issue is when raised by a vegan. They could have 4 pages of vegan stuff and it wouldn't bother me in the slightest, as long as they still sold meat I'd still visit. The buns are an interesting one though, I'm really going off brioche so have started eating them without bun instead. I assume an absence of bun is suitably vegan?

Vegan options are becoming increasingly common, and to be honest, it makes sense. If you're catering for vegetarians with options available, it might as well go the whole hog (excuse the pun) and cut the dairy too. There's lots of delicious food that doesn't contain either meat or dairy, and whilst I still eat both, I really don't miss it when I don't, or see it as such a staple or key part of a meal any more. Some of the meat substitutes are very good too (I had a very tasty seitan burger in BrewDog for example).

If it's in the too difficult/too expensive to sort box, I understand, the Vaults is a business, but I thought I'd ask.

It's possibly a chicken and egg situation.

In that, there are costs in producing options that need to be covered by people actually availing of those options.

I only said 'some meat-eaters' because i've seen it in action, those true meat heads who give you their cave man ug when talking about why they eat meat and why i should go back to eating meat, type thing. They over cater for it/themselves, and start ordering their steak blue, just to try and get a rise. It's pitiful but mostly, funny.
I know where you're coming from as i'm the same but in reverse, i skip the 4 pages of dead animals delights and go looking for the v stuff, it's no biggy, and if they don't cater for nonanimal eaters, i skip the establishment (whichever place that may be) and go to those that cater for almost everyone!
Tis what we all do init?

Has this taken the thread down the wrong alley, remember Vaults, it wasn't me @JTL85 started it, naughty naughty!

Just putting this out there....but perhaps some establishments simple don't feel the need to or want to add a vegan option?

With this I am in no way saying that the Vaults will or will not explore the possibility of a vegan option. I understand that some people on here would like to see more vegan options available....I get that...but what if the tables were turned....and I wanted to see a meat option in a vegan establishment.......I would imagine the back lash would be phenomenal?

*sits and await to militant responses telling to be vegan and give up meat

Enjoying a drop of red.

Surely not...

Actually the vegans I know in the real world wouldn't respond like that. It's just one or two a-holes on here who like to do that whilst hiding behind their keyboard. Same as any other topic ever discussed on the internet really.

haha,

Fair point...there are a few key board warriors on here I have noticed....but please don't take my comment previously as one to be "vegan bashing"....to be vegan is your choice and I certainly would not want to antagonise anyone on here...but sometimes the comments passed on here can be taken as quite militant.....such as "you ask why I am vegan...ask yourself...why aren't you (hints of meat eating shaming)..?"simple....I quite like bacon.....

I'm not sure I've seen anyone on here campaigning against people eating meat. As someone very much on the fence, it's generally those who eat meat who shout the loudest and are generally more offensive in the way they speak about veganism rather than the other way around.

That said, I don't want to hijack this thread to talk about the pro's and con's and ethics of any diet.

The Vaults is a great establishment and it's customer base is probably more diverse, and certainly more 'alt' than many of the other places in town. I asked a question about the possibility for an option on the menu that is vegan, it's up to the Vaults if this is something they consider viable and in line with their 'brand', and if they tell me to go forth and multiply then I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

It's no different to me wanting real cider and some pubs just selling strongbow - I simply don't go there. I can't personally understand why a place wouldn't at least sell a decent bottle, but I'm not their target demographic.

I agree with you regarding Strongbow....I'd chose Foster's over that p*ss water any day, but more and more pubs are broadening their range of ciders too (personally I quite like a drop of the apple sauce)....What I am trying to say I guess is if you don't ask, you don't get......speak to the team in the Vaults...I'm sure they will listen and look into the possibility of more vegan options in the future...? You never know until you try.

Seconded.
We're generally a tame bunch on here, compared to some forum/social media sites, i'm sure.

Note: if they told me to go forth and multiply, i wouldn't just stop eating there (like i have), i'd stop drinking there too.

To get back on thread, i'd love the Vaults to make The Morrissey* a vegan burger, give the other places (such as The Swan and it's vegan burger) a run for their money.
*check out Someday by the Morrissey** bloke, i won't post the video here.
** full vegan now, from what i understand!

That would involve keeping two different buns, which they have previously said they didn't want to do? Its much easier for them to use ingredients that get used in multiple items, it cuts down wastage*. Could always order sans bun like I do, and ask them to miss off the halloumi?

*Please note I do not speak for TMV here, I just remember them mentioning previously not doing a seeded bun. The reasoning is my own interpretation.

Two different buns, why'dya need two different buns?
You have one bun* for all burgers, that's the beauty!
You source a bun for all and sundry**, easy.

*yes, a vegan bun, i'm trying not to say vegan as i'm sure a few people automatically assume i'm shouting VEGAN at people and trying to convert meatheads.
** though, of course, we all know that isn't possible, someone won't like this or that buns taste, but it won't have anything to do with being a vegan bun, it'll be down to that individual's taste preference.

They already do, they chose brioche. Not my taste but hey, I can choose if I eat it. The reason most people don't automatically eat vegan food isn't because they hate vegans, its because the usual variety tastes better to most people. You don't chuck egg into bread for fun!

OK, they already do a bap for all their burgers but it may not be a bap for almost ALL their customers.
A brioche was/is never to my taste either, found they crumbled under the vastness of the burger inside, but i'd have gone anyway and did do, to the Vaults for a burger, as the burgers were (and to those that still eat animals find them) so tasty.

That's the joy of the bun, there's LOADS of em out there, eggless* too who knew!
I'm just saying, choose one that you could consider to be open to more people, more people more customers, as Biggy once said.

Jeez, i hope this doesn't make me sound like i'm jabbin' the Vaults, i really don't mean it to come out that way.
If anything, i miss eating in there is all.

*eggless doesn't mean tasteless/less fun Tek, taste is in the mouth of the beholder.

I believe this issue was addressed some moments ago.
For someone who hates stating this and indeed that, this is not the greatest outcome for me.

Yeah hi, can i have the burger but can you hold the something and replace it with the something else, oh and also drop this for that and get the thing and replace it with the other thing, yes umm, and the tuther is that this and a bit of the other, or just tuther?
I'd never dream of asking nor presume something could/would be changed for my self-righteousness. If it's not on the menu, i don't order a main and then expect it to change.
Oh boy, NEVER, i'm just not THAT guy!

#awkes

I'm not alone on this one.
