The Market Vaults.

The outline of the building indicated as the public house in 1900 looks very like the outline of the buildings coloured in red in this copy of the 1879 map. In both there is a covered passage immediately to the south. Anyone know anybody in Marston's property department?

The passage is behind this door. Last time I found myself out there it contained a number of bins, a fire escape from upstairs in W.H. Smith, and a couple of nicotine dependant bar staff...

 

I’ve found a couple of homeless types out in that alley over the years, and Heff too...

 

With the subject of attendance by dogs being discussed elsewhere, I notice that The Market Vaults has a variety of complimentary nibbles available for selected customers.

 

I was in there last night to collect my hamper.
