All at the regulars at The Red Lion would like to thank Vince, Deb, family and staff for all their hard work over the past two years. It's been a stirling effort and we've all appreciated the great times they've given us . It's so sad to see them go, but they do so with everyones very best wishes for the future. THANK YOU !

Shame if it closes, i can remember a few years ago my old mate Gilbert and i used to do the 3r's the 1st sunday of every month. Rifleman, Railway and the Red Lion, i have fond hazy memories of our return trips..........

Hi

Nope. Vince and Deb handed over to a landlord and landlady from a management company (Enterprise own the pub). After ~5 months they landed up with about 24 hours notice to move out (the story is the management company went under). Enterprise brought in a tempory landlord to keep it ticking over who lasted a few week and it has been closed since then

All the best

Cheers for the update. We did try phoning but no answer, shame really but then the only time I visited was when out on a bike ride.

Used to love this pub. They did really good bonfire nights at one time and was really busy. I seem to remeber that they did a summer gig too?? We used to cycle there in the summer all the time but I moved. The last time I went there it was very empty although we had a grand time in the bar with a few locals. Would love to see it open again.

I've heard rumours that the Red Lion has re-opened or is about to do so, can anyone confirm this?

The Red Lion being open again would be excellent. You can't get much better than a couple of beverages at The Railway, a nice walk up the old railway track to The Red Lion, then back before closing. Please keep us posted.

The Red Lion is up for sale by auction. CP Bigwood are the auctioneers, the auction is on 5 September at Aston Villa's ground, there are a number of other pubs amongst the lots, including the Tavern. Both the Red Lion and Tavern are offered freehold.

The description of the Red Lion starts "An attractive Freehold village Public House considered suitable for a variety of alternative uses or redevelopment, subject to obtaining the appropriate Planning Consents, having a site area of approximately 0.71 acres." I suspect the Red Lion is being killed by a large social club nearby taking all its local drinks trade.
