These travellers are from France, so who knows, perhaps we might see a different standard of behaviour from the ''home grown''.

We went to the Great Dorset Steam Fair last weekend, and it felt like we'd gone to Appleby.

The language, spitting, burping and fighting made it a very uncomfortable day out for us especially with two small children in tow.

It's no wonder they have such a bad reputation with the behaviour and general attitude we witnessed.

There were still caravans there this evening.

There was also a group of individuals camped by the river near the footbridge, they looked the sort that could break a man's arm. I was going to get a picture, but they went for a swim before I could.

I thought it was swans that could break your arm ?, and swiming in the river, dear god !

Has anyone actually SEEN them break a man's arm? Much maligned. And very committed parents.
Though in fairness, I don't think swans actually bury their poo. Tek will know.

Come to think about it, if we started putting it about that badgers could break a man's arm they could be a darn sight safer. There is a creature in need of some self-defence skills.

Nah, swan crap is rank! Luckily they usually do it in the water.

As for badgers, gotta feel sorry for them. Its funny really, you can't build on land with badgers and you can only have them professionally removed at certain times of the year. There is however a state sponsored holocaust looming for them, wonder if planning laws will be changed? Could be a safety net otherwise, apply for planning permission on every badger set then be told you can't because of the badgers. Its illegal to interfere with them so they become safe?

That could actually work, Tek, especially as (the last time I checked) you don't have to actually own land/property in order to apply for planning permission there...

At the moment there are groups of people patrolling the setts to which they have access, ensuring as best they can, that the sett residents are not harmed. They can't do this on private land. But they could apply for planning permission to build a bungalow!

Many people judge by their own experience, like myself. As a kid growing up in Castletown (admittadly a while ago) we had to endure long periods of them pulling onto the front of the old Gas site where the car park is now. You could rarely go out and play safely without being threatened, kicked, punched, spat at, or if you played football on the rec, sliding in pony crap from the hoss they tied up!
When a load were parked on the Riverway car park a while back there was a nuber of shed break ins. May be a coincidence but it puts it in your mind.
Until you experience something good to change your view I'm afraid memories linger. Not conforming is one thing. being a pain in the ass to others is another matter!
