Opinion from The Heights

Morrisons have over paid for this site

Morrisons are not having the best of times

Morrisons are committed to finishing the build

If a magical/crazy business offered Morrisons a sum less than but not considerably less than their site purchase price they would take it

Waitrose have a store in Newport Shropshire. Shropshire has money .
Waitrose are opening in Uttoxeter near Derbyshire.
Derbyshire has money

If Waitrose were to open another in Staffordshire I would expect it to locate in the Stone area or possibly Doxey because of the extreme wealth bubble due to the footballers moving in, but I don't expect it to

Stafford has people not claiming JSA in the best 5% in the country and has an average household income of just under 45k per year.

both superior to Leek, who guess what have a......Waitrose. Stafford can easily sustain a Waitrose.

I did consultation work for Waitrose in 2004 (maybe earlier) with a move to moving to Stafford, actually noted in the previous local plan by a different third party consultant. The only stumbling block was a suitable site. They had 2 options but both were outside of the local plan and was not sold off in the end.

in 2012 waitrose were in interested in the current morrisons site but they could not a agree to the length of term of the lease (25 years, with a 20 year opt out), so morrisons took quickly as tesco were sniffing around.

If waitrose want a store in stafford that suits them, they will be here. At the end of the day it is only a sainsburys and m&s clone, which stafford has.

Stafford may well have the income numbers key to a Waitrose

Stafford is unique however

It's a tight wad town

It's population actually saves money

Crazy but true

Whilst the rest of the country is up to its arse in debt Stafford is the king of the piggy bank

Love these 'anyone else heard' inventions. Anyone else heard that the world is flat, especially around Stafford?

Agree Joshua. Forums full of 'I know before you folk'. Hence asked on the reliable site: this one ...

I have asked to supply source of information. Do wish information the use of this building is made known soon.

A pretty major construction in the town not to even have an owner at the moment...

The whole shooting match is either based on the current management theory of:

"It will work because I say so"

or the sychophants':

"It will work because you say so"

basil

don't mention the blinds
The largest Waitrose store is 56k sq ft, the building occupying north walls is 71k sq ft and all the opposition are within spitting distance.

Waitrose branded products are available throughout the Caribbean in selected supermarkets......

Nowt meks much sense anyhow.......

I actually agree with you John, Stafford do come across as looking after their money not sure why. Although not sure what the real evidence is bar that the commuters that now live here do not spend.
