The last time I went there I didn't eat a thing. My steak went back three times because they'd overcooked it and my mate had finished his. Never again.

really, I went again on Sunday, had a burger platter that included wild boar among other things... top notch. Had another look at the Flyer... new menu starts Tuesday.

I had been to the Shore Horse a few times and had indifferent experiences - a couple of bad ones but maily decent. Went there today and things seem to be ticking over just fine. Not a complaint at all - welcomed with a smile and seated straight away, drinks while viewing the menu, reasonably quick service and food was spot on and also a waitress with a great attitude who had a laugh with us when serving.
4 coffees, 1 beer, 2 duck breast mains, a garlic bread side and one apple pie with custard came to £48, not bad i thought and well worth another visit quite soon.

went to the shire horse this evening. the food was DELICIOUS and the portions just right. However I ordered a cup of tea and after I'd poured the tea noticed the mug was covered in bits of food, esp round the rim - and then looking at the milk jug it was also spattered in ... something. Mentioned it to the waiting staff though and they brought another fresh set out (which was all clean) which was good.

The waitress was really nice and apologetic and kept coming back to check on us. The guy showing people to seats (who we mentioned it to to begin with) was a bit more dismissive, however it was ROASTING in there and quite busy so he was probably just rushing around getting hot and flustered.

However, as I said the food was amazing and service was nice and quick and with a smile!

Out of grim curiosity, what was wrong with it?

Not heard too many complaints about the Shire Horse usually.

Enjoying a drop of red.
I had the beer battered haddock last time I was there, must be June time and it was OK, though nothing special. I find the SH to be very hit and miss.

There was very little fish, all batter . And mine was a fish tail mainly , 3 of us had ordered ,one piece was completely turned over into a ball , I should of said something but I recommended it and we were pushed for time , It's too late to complain now , maybe it was an off day :(

Any establishment is only as good as its Head Chef I guess. And they can come and go without any of us knowing.

We went here on Saturday for a meal, quality of the food and the service was fine, but why don't they sell 'normal' food? I mean everything on the menu is a bit weird, You cant just have Sea Bass it has to come with Scallops, etc etc. And the vegetarian selection is crap :)

Because there are not enough people who get the concept of good ingredients, well cooked, served simply, in this country that are willing to pay for it. It seems that people have so little left to say to each that...0ooh look! A sizzle dish!!..and a cocktail with a sparkler!..

In Northern Spain, however...

Has anyone eaten at The Shire Horse lately? I'm going for lunch tomorrow for a mate's birthday, so specific info on the Sunday roasts and the 'Sunday Best' slow-cooked options would be much appreciated.

Not happy with the unwelcome received here last night, I had my 84 year old dad with us who had just taken ages walking from the car, we were barely through the door just after 8.30 when the waitress pounced on us and said have you booked, when we said we hadn't she said you can have a drink over their pointing towards the very full bar area. I understand if they are busy but there were several tables empty and we weren't even offered one as an alternative seat or even given the chance to ask any questions, she said her piece and was off. Very rude and unwelcoming! Won't be returning that's for sure. It would have been nice to have got a good evening or a hello even, but based on the unwelcome we got quite glad we didn't get through the door if that's as friendly as it gets!

Old people like vegetables, that's how they got to be old.

I wouldn't know where to head to after that greeting

We went to the old faithful The Sun although very busy, barmaid was very helpful, we did find some seats as someone was just leaving, where my dad enjoyed a pint of Anchor and a sausage roll (no veg on this occasion) he then said when did it become such thirsty work trying to get a drink in this town.
