So much Indian already!!! How about more variety in ethnic food? Like Spanish tapas, sushi, Vietnamese etc. I would kill to be able to get sashimi in Stafford!

At least one tapas place has been tried, but when I visited it was way overpriced to me. Think it cost about £9 for 4 bowls, you'd need maybe 12 bowls to replace a meal so it doesn't work for eating out unless you just want an overpriced snack.

McTapas may be the answer.......

Why doesnt staffod have a blockbusters or even a video rental shop? I have to go to birmingham to get my dose of blockbusters, but cant join because i live too far away....Was gutted today when the lady told me they have exclusive rights a month early to the remake of fright night!! That movie didnt even show in stafford cinema! Mind boggling

I'm surprised that Blockbusters is still viable with the likes of Love Film, and on demand films on cable.

Yeah theres a lot of them around (just not around here)...Lovefilm has no choice i know a few people who had them and now dont bother. Ive just got netflix which is good...but again you limited on choice really. Blockbusters seem have a lot of choice. Like i mentioned, you cant get fright night exept from blockbusters, not even on lovefilm....i brought a couple of other movies from there too which were good and hard to find.

I dont watch tv too much looking into celebs and peoples lives - so i rely on movies & games....if bbc went ppv id be quids in lol

We get a lot of use out of our lovefilm account, that Goldilox must have set up 8 years ago, 3 discs at a time (highbrow list lowbrow list and tv) we barely buy anything, it's saved us a fortune and room - I really didn't know anyone still used Blockbusters. Stafford used to have 2 or 3 rental shops, one where Misters Mensware is now, and nother, I think near the market but that was when I was a student here many moons ago.

As for the tapas places, good food costs money, and the quality there was very good, it I'd a real shame it closed, but it was never that busy. I went a good few times and always had an excellent time.

.....a Wagamama, Tampopo or Woktastic would be fantastic.

A wagamama would be great and could possibly fit nicely into the old Chicago Rock venue....

Talking off venues that have closed down, does any one have any information regarding Chambers.

Im really encouraged by all the people who have posted on this topic, there seems to be a real passion to enhance Stafford which is really nice to see.

we've had several, including a blockbusters, but as others have said they just can't compete with online services.. and they won't be around much longer - physical media is so last decade! i haven't even got a DVD player in the living room anymore - haven't had one for over 3 years..

A wagamama in Stafford would be a disaster for my waistline.

They do some awesome specials - I went 3 days on the trot once when they were doing a smoked haddock kedgeree, and twice on the trot when they were doing a spicy butterflied prawns chilli noodles number more recently.

Greengate Deli is licensed, I have already started to make some calls to some local beer suppliers, we have accounts with Freedom, Lymestone, Quartz & Kinver plus Halfpenny Green Vineyard etc.

More than willing to push this idea forward

Or watch its own space..

Oh so do you want to tell the rest of the west midlands and as far down as newquay, that they are "old fashioned"because they have blockbusters?
Its a bit twilight zoney here
I dont own a dvd either lol. you dont need a dvd to watch dvd`s - i do have netflix (same as lovefilm) but they are all a bit "same and old" on there

I must ask do you all buy your box sets off lovefilm? or what about the collectable or hard to find ones? I dont have much interest in watching under 12`s or romancing the slop

With disks n disks closing (sob!) and hmv proberly being next - its like i said before - customers dictact what shops stay and go....you moan about your high street, empty shops etc - but its you the customers that are killing it!!

But just look at all that space they could knock the entire high street down - move the banks up one end of town and the other half could be a nice big housing estate or large warehouse - or just an open space for people to wander around

Why isnt there many independant shops in stafford? I know we have jade and lovebites to name a couple but why isnt there any of shops run by ethnics? the sort selling electrical, ex cat furniture, nik naks & statues etc - ones popped up in the old hub shop - thats a start but why only one? I love these shops they are nice to shop in and always polite.
Thats what the high street lacks - i mean if you wanted a huge rug where do you go?

Sports facilities and cash generation for the Council as well as health benefits for Town residents?

We had a new Council Sports Centre built a while back and, by all accounts, it isn't as good as some hoped. We've been left with a shortage of some facilities. especially football with the closure of the sports arena and reduction on sports halls in the new centre.

There is a viable(?) opportunity that could be looked at and some of the facilities are already in situe.
Stafford Rangers are looking for a new ground as the ground is outdated for making progress, is landlocked and to update it for future league standards could cost a bomb.
If the council were to buy the ground from Rangers and hand over land and help them with a new ground all partiescould be happy. There is a pitch area that could be converted to all weather and divided into small pitches or used as full size. There is a large social club that could generate funds every day and also hired out for gigs & functions, floodlights are already in place so the facility could be used every day and theres a large car park and dressing room block/offices that could be used/renovated.
The town get a sports facility and Rangers get a ground up to the required standard that could help the club and also raise the town's profile.

I happen to think that the Rowley Park sporting facility is an under used and under developed asset that could be fantastic for Stafford. It would be great to see the Olympic legacy have an effect on Rowley Park and get some much needed investment at the venue. Such as the addition of extra seating, social room/pavillion/bar so people can enjoy a drink while watching the athletics. I would also like to see a lot more sports athletic played at the venue and possibly a gymnastic centre added. Over the past few years great stides have been made at Stafford Cricket and Hockey Club and Keys Park now looks great so it would be fantastic if something similar could be replicated at Rowley Park.

With regard to the possible move of Stafford Rangers, I think that would be a fantastic idea. Stafford Rangers stadium is certainly a poor relation of some of its neighbours such as Burton Albions Pirelli Stadium. It would be great if land could be found for a new site for Stafford Rangers with possibly an indoor footballing centre and some outdoor pitches/all weather pitches. Stafford was recently criticesed for its lack of all weather pitches and we certainly lack football pitches in town if you compare our numbers to the likes of Stone which have a lot considering the towns population.
