what id love to see (and if i had loads of money id totally do it - contributions welcome) is some kind of youth centre. if i had endless money to invest i would make it in the town centre, an indoor skate park, food stalls, computer games (for some reason i visualise a pin ball machine??! retro....) sofas to hang out on, cool youth workers with facial hair and caring eyes, and cakes. lots and lots of cakes. whos with me?
also, a burger king would be incredible, and nandos would do well!
btw i think its lovely walking through st marys and seeing people sat around on the grass. its a shame theyre eating mcdonalds, it would be more picturesque if they were eating cupcakes out of woven baskets, but beggars cant be choosers :D
Like your style :D

So true, where are the youths supposed to go!

I suppose the students hang round town as I think there is no student union / canteen area, I hope I'm wrong but don't think I am. When I was a student youth there was the whiteley building go to, which has now been built over as the art dept.

I've thought that the large empty building off friars road at the back of the new tesco's carpark has potential to be made into a decent sized venue of some sort.

As a society we don't look after our youth very well anymore, it's quite sad really.

I second the idea that some kind of youth facilty is required in Stafford. I often thought that an American type diner with a chill out area would prove to be popular with Staffords youngsters.

That building at the back of Tescos could be a fantastic building and it would be excellent if could be made useful again.

I read last night in the Express and Star that a play center for children is to open in Stone which would employ up to 15 people. This is exactly the kind of thing that I was calling for on my first post. However my proposal was on a smaller scale.

I honestly believe that a play centre in a town centre location would be a profitable business. Grandparents would use during the week when babysitting and parents would use it on the weekends when shopping in town. I believe that this development will encourage parents to stay in town for longer and enjoy the full benefits of it rather than a quick dash in because the kids are getting bored or they have to get back to the babysitter.

I remember someone stating in this forum that they had looked at doing something similar but were put. Off by the amount of insurance required. Therefore the business model would probably suit a nursery owner who wanted to expand into a different business stream.

i agree with you ben i think it would benefit the town to have somewhere to pop the kids to play, and if there was an american diner i would die of happiness! i was hoping the big building on crabbery street (now a cash converters) would be a burger king. altho it would b bad for my post baby body and my cholesterol it would be good for business and good business beats a flat tummy anyday

It seems to me that there is a lot of expertise and good ideas within this forum so wouldnt it be great if we could form our own modern day cooperative and give something back to Stafford and create a facilty that can showcase Stafford aswell as helping the next generations.......

With regard to the Pie and Ale House and Chambers i would find it highly surprising if they werent bought as the majority of the hard work has clearly all ready been done with the makeovers of the building and the obvious support shown in this forum for the businesses. I would suggest that with some tweaking by an experience person in the leisure industry these places could thrive.

I welcome your thoughts......

The bit of delving that I did when Chambers folded suggested that the people behind that had plenty of experience with similar enterprises.

Hi Loveatfirst bite, thankyou for your comments. I think your shop looks great and the cakes are amazing.

With regard to a American style diner and Burger King i am at a loss to why these businesses havent opened in the town all ready. There are two american diners in Cannock both of which do really well and therefore I would envisage similar success in Stafford as on the whole Stafford is a more affluent area. I also note that recently Moben Kitchens shut down and relocated to Cannock is this due to there being less competition in Cannock or is this further evidence Stafford landlords are making it difficult for businneses to survive on the High Street.

Hi Gramaisc why did Chambers fold?? whenever I went there it always seemed to be busy and the food and beer was all ways of a good standard. Do you know if there are any likely buyers for the business.

Chambers from my experience had the same problems as the P & A and Apres - great when it started, great food and always busy but as time went on standards slipped. The last meal I had in Chambers shortly before it closed was pretty shocking

I think all places are busy when they first open and people are having a nose to see if they like it. Problems arise if the initial busy period tails off - less money coming in means initial standards cannot be upheld. It's a catch 22 situation.
Some places though - like The Sun and The Swan manage to get it just right and stay busy thus being able to uphold their standards. It only takes one bad visit to a venue for people to go off the place and unfortunately that is what has happened with both Chambers and PandA.

The firkin could be a great venue again, i often wonder where all the types of people that used to go to Props and the Surgery now go to becuase you never really see people who like Rock music / Goths etc in town anymore.
