Chris Fish Bar Rising Brook has really good SFC if you get it when it's freshly cooked, it tends to dry out a bit after a while under the heat lamps, 2 pieces & chips in a box £2.80. Also legendary cod.
Quite like the mixed kebab meat & chips from Sandon Road too.
Has anyone noticed chip shops not opening on Sunday evenings lately? A couple of weeks ago I tried Chris's, Highfields and Sandon road at about 7.30 pm before settling for a chinese from Oriental Kitchen.
Sorry Trumpet gonna have to disagree with ya. Last night we thought we would treat oursleves and the only place we could find open was Chris's. Chips were ok but the fish was terrible, dried up and hard. Was much the same when we tried it about 3months ago so not impressed and not going there again.

Sorry to hear that, most folk rave about it, I know one couple who travel from Penkridge for the fish!

don't mention the blinds
Finally reached conclusion that there is no "best chippy" they are all selling rubbish so the competition should be for the "worst chippy"

The best chippy in the town is currently First Avenue IMO, clean as a whistle and grub is cooked as you wait, portions BIG and service excellent. Couldn't tell you if it's open on a Sunday though, sorry.

Northern lights is our local, but the tinterweb lies and its not open on Sunday, we couldn't find if husbands favourite (windmill chippy) was open....so we ended up in the Scottish farmers joint - which was full of hormonal teenagers.....if you are the parent of a young lady called Demi who arrived in a shiny white new car with 7 other teens packed into it - please have a word, her behaviour and language was disgusting in a place full of small children!

My fault for galavanting around today instead of food shopping.

Chippy open on a Sunday - Stafford Chippy nr Greyfriars retail park - (previously Ye Old Chippy)

Very nice chips too!
Haha! My teenage son insists its called 'De olde chippy' and we would argue for hours over its name, never tried there either even though its only down the road.

Tried the one on First Avenue a few years ago and it was terrible, but I think its changed hands since then...

All this from someone who doesn't even like chips!

Stafford Chippy (Ye olde etc etc) is actually very good!

They manage to make strangely non-greasy chips (god knows how!)

A very different chippy experience!

Although my local is Sandon Road and I go there far to often (they know my name!!!!)

I agree - First Avenue is the best chippy in town, but it doesn't open on Sundays :( and yes Little Me - it has changed hands in the last couple of years so worth a try, highly recommended)
