Where's the best Chip Shop

Agree with Scallywag, The Little Fawn is the best chippy I've tried in Stafford. I used to live in a seaside town where the fish was really fresh and The Little Fawn is the closest I've managed to find with really fresh fish and non greasy batter / chips.

Any good chippys open tonight? (Sunday)

funnily enough, i was in exactly the same position on sunday! i just assumed chippies were open on a sunday - i can't believe the vast majority are closed, surely they're missing a trick?? i bet loads of people would fancy a chip supper on a sunday..

but yeah, i came to the same conclusion others did in response to your question - only one i could find was stafford chippy, up by reynolds.. me & the missus shared chips, cod, and battered sausage and it all came to less than £4! not the best in stafford, but definitely nothing wrong with them and i wouldn't hesitate to order from there again.. chips were a bit greasy, but the fish was lovely and flaky, and the batter crispy :)

my favourite chippy is the one on westway - enormous portions, and lovely and crispy, not greasy.. we usually get a regular chips & 2 mini-fish, which is about £6, and there's always more than enough to feed the pair of us

Sorry Trumpet gonna have to disagree with ya. Last night we thought we would treat oursleves and the only place we could find open was Chris's. Chips were ok but the fish was terrible, dried up and hard. Was much the same when we tried it about 3months ago so not impressed and not going there again.
Also its a massive ripoff. I think its £3.20 for a large chips which is really a small by most chip shop standards. Pretty poor chips for that matter aswell. Ive banned the mrs from going there. I always go to the westway chippy since i moved down this way. Never had a bad meal from there and the prices are so cheap i often thing theyve not charged me for something. Huge portions. Biggest joke in terms of chip shops was when the windmill was voted staffords best chippy by signal . The DJ who did the competition was ray crowther. I was in the windmill chippy one night and ray crowther was in the queue in front. He recieved his large bag of assorted items and left without paying a penny. Make youre own mind up if it was staffords best chippy.

Won it about 100 years ago wasn't it.....

Have to agree with Chris' though - went there once on a recommendation and found it very expensive compared to Highfields chippy.

ditto.. i have no idea why people rave about chris' fish bar (or whatever it's called).. you always hear people say it's the best in stafford, so one evening me & the missus went out of our way to go there, and to say we were disappointed is an understatement.. there wasn't anything particularly wrong with it, but given its reputation we were very underwhelmed - decidedly average, small portions, high prices..

westway chippy is still the best for me, closely followed by weeping cross..

Have to say I've been distinctly underwhelmed the last couple of times I've been in since leaving Stafford. Think it's since Chris has retired, his son seems more interested in chatting to young girls and telling all and sundry of his 160 mph exploits on the A449.

Ha ha youve got that bang on! Ive only been in a few times but ive witnessed exactly what you said each time. I remeber one of the times he was telling somebody just loud enough so everybody in the shop could hear, how expensive his gaming PC was and what each part cost.
