For purely journalistic reasons I had a few in the new Rose & Crown last night, between 6 and 10.
The new lay-out is interesting, the bar being in the middle of the building, seperating the front bar/lounge from the larger area at the back with tables etc. It's a good idea, the regulars can stay cozy in their section whilst pub-crawlers and weekend drinkers can occupy the larger bit.
They have moved the toilets upstairs, which opens up the back of the pub nicely and creates a bit more room for tables. However, this does mean you've got to go outside to go up to the toilets. The smoking area is quite big and sheltered, although not being a smoker I stayed in the warm
Very nice decor and wood furnishings, especially the tables and pieces on the walls. As it has no doubt just been finished there was an overwhelming smell of paint.
Three good ales on, the Joules IPA, blonde and Slumbering Monk. They have six hand-pulls in all, although only had three beers on yesterday. Lager (boo-hiss) looked to be Carling and Grolsch on tap, cider was Stowford Press.
It was a bit quiet for an opening night / first night, but there were still groups of people coming and going. I saw lots of local faces from local businesses in there, which was good.
I enjoyed it and will definitely be going back, hopefully to sample the food next time.
