New Police & Crime Commissioner - elections in November

If Matthew Ellis becomes commissioner that may mean he cannot be cabinet member for social services.
Would that be a good thing or a bad thing. Haven't taken much notice in local politics for the last few years and the main reason is the change to cabinet style governance replacing the tried and trusted committee system. The concern is that decision making is concentrated in the hands of a few councillors(who have been given high falutted job titles) and the rest become marginalised and impotant.

Surely the Greens or UKIP or one of the other fringe parties could find a candidate to at least give us a choice.

I know it has been made very difficult for an independant to stand due to the high cost but wew need more of a choice than the two party stooges!

A bit late in posting but I read an article in Thursday's E&S(I think) about Staffordshire Police proposing to purchase 'indestructable' laptops for all it's 250 patrol cars at £5,000 a piece. Now I'm sure very laudable reasons to buy this level of hardware but I'm sorry planning to spend £1.5million on laptops makes a mockery of all the talk of 'savage cuts'.
Now i know equipment doesn't come cheap but you do need to question priorties when we are told that we are losing front line policing.

£1,250,000 rather than £1.5 million

I'd want to know the duty cycle of these laptops versus the frequency of breaking the old ones. You'd need to break 10 laptops in the normal life of one of these to make it worthwhile, and even then I'm not so sure as the replacement laptops would be an upgrade each time and therefore have a potentially longer life. Also I'd not expect a laptop to still be in active use after 5 years, so you'd have to break a laptop every 6 months for every car.

If officers are doing this they either need retraining or a different technological approach is needed, it is not acceptable to break that much equipment. under normal circumstances.

Are you thinking what i'm thinking?

Surely someone could stump up the five G to put tek-monkey forward for PCC? Thieves beware!

Whatever people's choices - I will vote for Joy Garner -I've attended a consultation she (and Matthew Ellis) attended

She knew her stuff on police issues and policies. Matthew Ellis was clueless.

Matthew Ellis is just intent on privatising the force - selling off a top performing force bit by bit. Then giving officers IPads - the reason is because he saw a police officer writing things in his note pad and his pencil broke. What a load of sh#t - police officers don't use pencils.

The whole pcc thing is another way for the tory's to stuff up the country - if they get their people into the roles around the country then they can take control - then privatise -

Everywhere else where privatisation has occurred the companies have failed to deliver their supposed savings. In one force they privatised, and then that company sold part of the contract on to another company. Many staff have lost their jobs leaving the forces with nightmares and in 10 year contracts they cannot get out of.

Whoever you vote for please vote for a candidate who is against privatisation.

I dont know the candidates but I do know a few who do - None are impressed with either

Have you considered the position Tinkerbell? If the 5k barrier was lifted?

I'm in! We'd have to make some new stocks in the town centre, which as a by-product could help the market dispose of rotten vegetables :D

I believe the hanging room and death cell are still kept ready for use at Stafford Prison or at least they were about ten years ago when I visited the prison.

Nice thought but already have a job (at the moment) they would never lift the money - its a ridiculous sum.

You would be good at it Mr. Marwood - we could have a SF charity night to raise the 5k :)

I am not sure I have the 'right form' for such a position - however I would bet that your current position might pay a little less than this one..?

I think that UKIP are thinking of putting a candidate forward. Matthew Ellis is no longer a cabinet member because he cannot be if he is a candidate. He will privatise because that is what he believes in. Joy Garner is not very bright but she will not privatise and hopefully will be kept in order by the CC. I don't know who to vote for - neither at the moment.
