Market Square paving.

From the Facebook pictures I've seen today it looks like it's been very slowly and messily dismantled rather than working in sections. Lord knows how Walking Street will go with a few thousand passing through?

I think they have layed 3 manholes covers this week.
It's going to be a long time building this thing.

Couldn't see if anything has been done this week during my weekly visit, maybe a drain cover.

Maybe they've employed the loud mouths who have been doing a neighbours rear garden for the past 2-3 weeks. Doing a day here and there, prolonging the noise. I even saw one of them taking a leak behind the shed at the top of their garden. Take note if you're planning on employing Tom Butler to do a paving job, music thumping out loud, very loud laughing and messing about.

I hear, see and agree with, most of the views about what a mess the Market Square situation is.
However, I reeeeeeally hope that we are all proved wrong and when the town looks all spick and span, lots of new businesses see the potential and move onto our high street.

I'll wait...

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
It was busier without doubt but the roads being in use by cars compressed all the people onto the pavement area - compared to people using the whole road nowadays.

Town centres in general were busier back then compared to today.

And every time you wanted to cross from where that picture was taken from to Boots or Jenkinsons you took your life into your hands.

Not to mention the noise and the fumes we all had to breathe in.
Yes, there was lots of buses and traffic, but look how many people there were! You only see that now when the half marathon etc is on ..... That was a normal day!

I'll still give it a miss thanks. Once was enough.

Sort out Market Square (and doing so a bit more quickly wouldn't go amiss) and the rest of the pedestrianised zone, then put some businesses in that give people more of a reason to come into town as well as turning the eyesore parts into town centre housing and things could be much, much better for all of us.

The large number of people is because they're waiting for buses at the bus stops.

Those were the days when we actually had half decent bus timetables that actually ran to the town centre and ran past 18.30.

Yes, but lots of people waiting for buses like to shop in shops while they're waiting for their 1hourly bus!
