That article is very misleading. For example, I had a 'faulty' smart meter with a certain supplier, that supposedly wouldn't send readings. Amazingly, when I switched suppliers it started working correctly. For the majority of cases, the fault lies with the energy supplier not the meter; quite simply, with many suppliers, there are not enough customer support staff and meter specialists to cope with the rollout and solve simple issues setting up these meters.1. I don't think so.
Nearly four million households risk overpaying on energy bills due to faulty smart meters

2. I have never had any difficulty reading a meter.
3. There shouldn't be other suppliers as it shouldn't have been pirateised by the Tories.
Indeed, most smart meters will work between suppliers now (compared to before when they didn’t work if you moved)1. If I was a betting person, and if my experience with British Gas is anything to go by, I'd bet that the fault lies with British Gas and not the meters.
2. If you are finding reading the meters manually an issue, ask them to put you on the Priority Services Register and ask them to read your meters for you. https://www.britishgas.co.uk/priority-service-register
3. Consider moving to a supplier with better customer services, that's just about anyone else except Scottish Power. That would also help you get any credit back, as that would automatically be refunded after you've switched and received your final bill from British Gas.
We do actually have a smart meter issue, compounded by the position in the house and the lack of signal here. We have spent a long time on the phone to Octopus who are absolutely trying to fix it. We need a smart meter to run our car, because we need a special tariff - I can't read meters every half an hour!
Currently in the arrivals lounge at Nice airport waiting for the current Mrs p to arrive. When she eventually does we will take a short drive across the border and spend a couple of days chilling out in Sanremo. Sun (hopefully), sea and pasta, lurvely.
There's an issue with the Comms hub they think so we've been put on the list to get an upgraded meter. We found out yesterday that if they don't get one of the half hourly readings in a day they bill the whole day on a different rate, I guess because it's so much work to pull it through. We sometimes have issues with half hourly reads not going in on Agile but they store a tonne of data so they can pull from them manually, does yours just never push up at all?
Generally you either get data or you don't, intermittent issues are unusual due to the data buffering

Yeah, I've heard this too. My home has a very poor signal for phones but luckily my meter works fine, I've head there are numerous things they can do to boost it but obviously you need something to boost, can they fit an external antena? There's an issue with the Comms hub they think so we've been put on the list to get an upgraded meter. We've asked for that too. They definitely want to fix it but it's taking time.Yeah, I've heard this too. What about a home mini, would they take reads off that? It'd go through your broadband then.
