Are you interested in People or Profit? essentially thats what it's all about.

From a cultural point of view.

Do you like Joe Strummer, Bruce Springsteen, Alan Bennett, Neil Young, John Peel, Eddie Izzard, alexi Sayle, Malcolm Maclaren, Spike Lee, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie,
Alex Ferguson, Woody Allen, Brian Clough?

or

Jimmy Hill, Cilla Black, Bruce Forsyth, Jeffery Archer, Dave Lee Travis, Jimmy Tarbuck, Adam Faith, Parky, ........er....struggling to think of any more right leaning cultural types from the last 50 years. Help me out.
I like some from both lists, does that make me confused?
Name names!

I still think your view of the Press is skewed - Guardian and Daily Mirror being the only Papers who have supported the Labour Party - except in May when the Gaurdian bizzarely switched to the Liberals. It attracted a fair bit of comment too which reinforces my point.

Do you serously think the Sun, Mail, Express, Times and FT have ever displayed any support or leaning to the left?

The Express seems to be a Monarchist fanzine and the Mail has an agenda of perpetual attacks on Single, Mothers, Immigrants legal or otherwise, Claiments, Europe , Students and anyone in the entertainment Industry who is not a mate of Parky's.

Morning Star is simply not a player in this company - never heard a journo from there on Today or PM or Newsnight.

The persistant gripe from the Right (Notably Hesiltine, Tebbitt and Howard) has been of a biased BBC - which as a regular listener and viewer I would strongly disagree with.
Well to start with I have never heard ofg Joe Strummer or Spike Lee, I know Alan Bennett writes plays but wouldn't know what he has written!

As for Alex Ferguson well I can't stand him, Stephen Fry is a pompous twit and Bruce Sprinsteen and Neil Young sing some pretty tunes.

Not keen on Eddy Izzard but respect for doing all those marathons, I suppose the only person on that list I really like is Hugh Laurie!

As for your right wing list ther isn't anyone on the list I really like but I really dislike Jeffrey Archer!

You may be right in your analyse of the different papers because I never read them all I am going on is hearsay, you are right about the BBC though the right hate them!

Me too. If you say anything to challenge the reactionary right wing hegemony promoted by certain branches of the tabloid press then it seems to be taken as a personal attack by many people. I guess they just don't like being expected to defend their views.
Okay I don't get all this left-wing and right-wing nonsense, nor do I particularly care, but for future reference which team of arseholes is left wing?

I'm stunned.

Literally speechless.

It's beyond weird on a moderm Forum.

He has his detractors of course - and I admit to being a fan - but can anyone name a more important English band other than the Beatles? Some might say the Stones, some the Who a few deluded weirdo's might mention Queen.

Just who are the modern cultural reference points?

Pete Doherty? Simon Cowell?Wayne Rooney?Chris Moyles?.

God I feel out of touch. Mind you a girl at work last week hadn't heard of the Milliband Brothers!!

Indeed Indeed

You would have thought with so much information available at the touch of a mobile button ,,, blah blah

Perhaps that the point - No NME 'bibles' anymore , just nonreams and nonreams of drivel ( from a drivelling man )

Don't mistake having information at the touch of a button for reading information available at the touch of a button. I'd wager you can also find out the latest x factor 'news', hollyoaks gossip (I know, I know, that doesn't even make sense) and catchup on what Dappy from Ndubs has done today, at the touch of a button.
