I think the extreme right would think we have a left wing bias in the media but thats only because they are extreme and everybody else who does not agree is a commie.

Isn't it strange that the left wing consider the press to be right wing and the right wing consider the press to be left wing!
It's not strange becuase it's not true. Cannot believe you wrote this as a serious comment.
It most certainly is true!

I speak to people from the left and the right and both consider the press to be biased against them.
FWIW, when I said "certain branches of the tabloid press" I meant just that. If I meant "the whole press" that's what I'd have written. I'm pretty sure the bias in the Sun and the Daily Mail, is not just my imagination, but I'd clearly be an idiot to try and argue that the Morning Star fell under some kind of right wing media conspiracy...

Me too. If you say anything to challenge the reactionary right wing hegemony promoted by certain branches of the tabloid press then it seems to be taken as a personal attack by many people. I guess they just don't like being expected to defend their views.
Okay I don't get all this left-wing and right-wing nonsense, nor do I particularly care, but for future reference which team of arseholes is left wing?
Are you interested in People or Profit? essentially thats what it's all about.

From a cultural point of view.

Do you like Joe Strummer, Bruce Springsteen, Alan Bennett, Neil Young, John Peel, Eddie Izzard, alexi Sayle, Malcolm Maclaren, Spike Lee, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie,
Alex Ferguson, Woody Allen, Brian Clough?

or

Jimmy Hill, Cilla Black, Bruce Forsyth, Jeffery Archer, Dave Lee Travis, Jimmy Tarbuck, Adam Faith, Parky, ........er....struggling to think of any more right leaning cultural types from the last 50 years. Help me out.
How about Ron Atkinson for your list of right wingers?

Having re-read the list there aren't many I do like (and some I have never heard of) from either list!

Good god is the Morning Star still going?

Try this, it may make things clearer, or not.

Reminds me of that old quiet newsday trick where the tv journalist ties up a dog to a railing on one side of the street and a child on the other...and shock horror the kid gets ignored while the dog gets fed and fussed over...

Very interesting!

Apparently I am just to the left of the SDLP (not that I know anything about them)

According to that site Labour and the LibDems are more right wing than the BNP!

Just for you, Comrade.

I would not consider the Morning Star part of the National Press - doubt I could buy a copy this morning if I really wanted to.

Don't touch any of them on purpose. As a rule I read blogs, bit of BBC news when the idea takes me, and anything that is linked to me. Normally if I care about an issue I'll read as many sources about it as possible. I'm more story-led than paper-led. I know Mr Zeb tends to read foreign news/watches webcasts online to get a different angle.

Name names!

I still think your view of the Press is skewed - Guardian and Daily Mirror being the only Papers who have supported the Labour Party - except in May when the Gaurdian bizzarely switched to the Liberals. It attracted a fair bit of comment too which reinforces my point.

Do you serously think the Sun, Mail, Express, Times and FT have ever displayed any support or leaning to the left?

The Express seems to be a Monarchist fanzine and the Mail has an agenda of perpetual attacks on Single, Mothers, Immigrants legal or otherwise, Claiments, Europe , Students and anyone in the entertainment Industry who is not a mate of Parky's.

Morning Star is simply not a player in this company - never heard a journo from there on Today or PM or Newsnight.

The persistant gripe from the Right (Notably Hesiltine, Tebbitt and Howard) has been of a biased BBC - which as a regular listener and viewer I would strongly disagree with.

Murdoch did support Blair when it was politically expedient to do so. This hardly represents support or leaning to the left though.

I think you're right and it's the BBC rather than the Press that constantly gets squeezed from both sides.

It is widely considered ( from within the Beeb ) that the BBC has held back on reporting the extent of the cuts, fearing they are in for similar if they do not appear to be seen to 'support' at least some the new Governments economic 'plans'

This is the view from the older hacks of course and not of 'the management'...
