A New Front Door

Woohoo! I have a new front door...

And as one door opens another one closes: my UPVC one has shut and now all the bolts are stuck in situ so the friggin thing won't open. This actually happened over the weekend and the company can't come to fix until Friday, at the earliest. We've been clambouring over the neighbours and down the side entry all week - a very unpleasant experience :(

Glad yours is now sorted though LittleMe. I took for granted what having a working front door felt like!!!

Same has happened to us kyoto. UPVC front door bolts stuck in the locked position the other week, so as the back door leads into the garage we are having to go through there to get in and out. A right pain having to do the up & over door each time. If that door goes we will be climbing out of the windows!
Tried a load of locksmiths who either didn't answer the phone , or left a voicemail message that they were on holiday . As it's happened a couple of times before (soon learnt to take the backdoor keys out ...had left them in the first time and had to get someone to come out and break in for us!) we've gone down the new door route. So a few more weeks to suffer until it's fitted.:(

It helps to know someone else feels our pain!!! I was quoted about £1K for a new door from a couple of places, plus a 3 week wait so I opted on spending £300 on getting the existing door working as it was quicker, but spending that much money on the old door isn't sitting well with me I have to admit. No-one advertises this kind of issue when they sell you a double glazed door do they!!!

The quality of the locking mechanisms often leaves a lot to be desired - I've had a window that locked itself shut and managed to get that open and replace the mechanism with one that wasn't made from compressed digestive biscuits. I also recently had to get past a door where the latch had broken off on a "traditional" lock - for exactly the same amount of money, they could have made one that didn't fall apart.

Our letter box broke off soon after we had the front door . Progress glazing (Don't think they exist anymore-used to be down Baswich lane) bloke said "Aaah! That's because people have been pushing post through.....the one in our showroom has been there a few years and is perfectly ok". The replacement letterbox has since fell off inside as well

I've often wondered why Weetabix isn't used as industrial adhesive. Have you tried getting the bloody stuff off whatever the flippin kids got it on and you didn't realise? Makes excellent paint stripper too

Still no entry via our front door. the men came round today and brought a new lock only for the new lock to have some bit if it facing the wrong way so we need a different new lock :( . 4 more days of tramping across next door and down the entry :(
