Beaconside sports centre

No wonder they only allowed me to extend my membership by 6 months, rather than the usual 12.

In the mean time the area gets less and less cared for and it all starts to look rather tatty, over the next few months.

Wasn't the astroturf/playing surface, replaced no more than 8 months ago?

Do you think the people of Stafford who use the pitches, will get 12 months of use out of that pitch?

From the article on the University website:
"Beaconside Sports Centre, which forms part of the site, is scheduled to close this summer although the use of the large Astroturf facility will remain in public use until June 2017"

So it looks like although the astro will be available for the 2016/2017 season, all changing facilities will be closed as of the end of this season

Just seen that myself. Looks like the Stafford hockey teams are going to be without a place to play.

It won't be closed. Talks on the transfer of the site facilities are going through process now with a UK owned. All will be fine ;)

I'm all for positive but (if you have more info then share, so) could you go into a little more detail? your sentence is a little confusing.

The school uses the facilities too. It needs to remain open. Unless of course these investors are hoping to build houses on the fields. I wouldn't put it past them.

The school's not going to be able to use them for much longer!

For what it's worth, i've sent an email to Mary Jennings, Rowan Draper and Jeremy Lefroy.

At least one of them must have something positive to say, in regards to saving the sports centre from closure, I've almost convinced myself.

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
I've heard that the Astro turf pitch will close in 18 months time.

What the heck is happening to Stafford?
Did Stafford council distribute pairs of rose tinted glasses some time recently, which come with an Exciting Developments to Stafford for the Good of Stafford etched on each lense, that by law we have to sport each time we leave the house, allowing really important places around us to be chipped away at and then eventually, close?

Where's MY rt glasses?

Comes to something when the University would rather be based in Stoke than Stafford. I can only presume they like the cheap housing.

Most of our campus is in Stoke - it's where the majority of our facilities are, and the majority of our students - it always has been. I'm sorry to leave Stafford, but it's more like a college campus then a university campus here at the moment. I really can't wait to be all in one place, and the opportunities for collaboration that will emerge and that we can stop spending money on duplicating facilities. We'll be closer to a major train station, there's more support for alumni wanting to set up ventures after graduating and it means all of the students will mix together. Cost effective housing and more social life opportunities are part of that.

On the basis my recruitment numbers seem to be up the quiet life of Stafford is not the draw people kept telling me it was.
