Most of our campus is in Stoke - it's where the majority of our facilities are, and the majority of our students - it always has been. I'm sorry to leave Stafford, but it's more like a college campus then a university campus here at the moment. I really can't wait to be all in one place, and the opportunities for collaboration that will emerge and that we can stop spending money on duplicating facilities. We'll be closer to a major train station, there's more support for alumni wanting to set up ventures after graduating and it means all of the students will mix together. Cost effective housing and more social life opportunities are part of that.

On the basis my recruitment numbers seem to be up the quiet life of Stafford is not the draw people kept telling me it was.

And you don't have to deal with Stafford Borough Council - win win

Nor us...they're history.
We do care though, as should everyone, if an important (some would say vital although that would be pushing it other than for our hockey section) facility that could have been secured has not been secured because your local authority has not taken up an option to do so.

Totally agree with you on that. The whole hockey saga has been a disgrace and reflects VERY VERY badly on SBC.

Regarding the closure, Rowan Draper has told me, he'll write to the Cabinet Member for Leisure at Stafford Borough Council.

Sorted then.

He's always been such a passionate supporter of sports facilities in the town, as his stirling work on the planning committee over the hockey club so admirably demonstrates.

The campus looks like its going to be a Chinese boarding school. Fully fenced and enclosed as per any other school of that ilk
It is VERY unlikely that any part of it whatsoever will be open to the public.
There is virtually no chance of the sports hall or pitches etc being available to the general public
The only reason the big pitch is available until mid 2017 is because the uni had or have an agreement with the council that has a clause that says they must give a years notice from the next anniversary of the agreement being signed (ie June 2016 being the anniversary).

The pitch was relaid by the university because they had saved money over time do it for that specifically. It may also have been that technically half that money belonged to the taxpayers of Stafford. Bit strange but there you go.

As far as I'm aware, the money that was used to pay for the pitch resurfacing came out of the sinking fund arrangement that the University had with SBC but there was no direct taxpayer money used

Half that money is related to the borough council, the borough council is by defacto the tax payer? no? After all "government" has no money - you do! ;)

I know people who go to use the Uni canteen, coffee shops and cash point. All of that will be out of bounds then?

Honestly, for people who work on the tech park having so little in the way of facilities is really annoying. It wouldn't be so bad if Stafford had a decent "mall" on that side of town which was easy to get to.

I think the land adjacent the new pub is earmarked for a similar facility as you suggest (?)
