BNP Members list published on internet

i read one news report yesterday (think it was the BBC) where one of the members was quoted as saying something along the lines of "to be honest i don't agree with all their racist nonsense, i just felt at the time they were the only party who stood up for british values. so far all i've got out of my 'membership' is constant requests for money!"

Any ideas as to how to make use of this information?
If we did anything we would only be persicuting them and isn't that what they do.
 thank goodness for common sense.

One thing is for sure, they'll never win.
I'm glad you're so sure!

They've already won 49 council seats, 9 of those just up the road in Stoke-on-Trent...
And why? Because they were elected in democratic elections. Why were they elected? People voted for them. Why did people vote for them? Because they believed they were the best candidate/party.
YouGov did a survey a few years ago: IIRC, one group of people were presented with a list of policies for "a political party" and a second group "the BNP". In both cases, the policies were the officially stated policies of the BNP. They were then asked, "Would you vote for this party?" A significantly higher percentage of the first group said Yes.
That group of people liked the BNP policies; just not the BNP.
I can only find the report in the Mail.

What happened to the BNP plans to stand in Stafford? I vaguely remember reading one article in the free paper about them holding a meeting in Wetherspoons (I think...), and then nothing...

If they can convince me that their candidate is the best, then I will. They'll have to work bloody hard, though. :)

No, the reason I want them to stand is so I can have another debate with a librarian, because I would bet the library's public internet connection blocks the BNP website whilst letting us view the website of Other Political Parties. This is, IMO, grossly unfair, both to the party and to me; why should I be deprived by an organisation supported by my tax money of information required to responsibly exercise my Democratic Right To Vote?

Edit for grammar and because on rereading it was a mess. :)

wait, you want a BNP candidate in our area, just because it will be the catalyst that allows you to have an argument with someone?

christ, you need to get a hobby lol

who, me? not really.. i quoted wookie directly, so the context is intact.. i'm not saying his argument is right or wrong, i'm just saying that wishing something would happen just so you can have an argument seems like a bizarre way to spend your time..

it's like saying "i wish asda would stop selling potatoes, so i can get into a debate with the customer service clerk about how important potatoes are," lol..

True. :)
OK, perhaps I didn't rewrite it well enough. This is what happens when I post in a hurry :)
I don't *want* a BNP candidate: based on what I know of them, they'd have to work quite hard to convince me they were the right party; there are much better prospective BNP voters among the floating voter population than I for them to spend their time with.
I would object most strongly to a publicly funded institution like the library deciding that people unable or unwilling to pay for their own internet connections should get information about the BNP and its policies from its opponents. The pleasure I get from making a case for this to someone like the head librarian is a pleasant diversion for me for half an hour. I don't seriously think they're going to change: I just enjoy the intellectual exercise (half the reason I come to The Forum :) ) and to hear them try and make a case for censorship.

I like the potatoes analogy, though. :)

Organise and host a meeting with them and LMHR so you can publicly debate viewpoints and beliefs. May not achieve anything, but it might achieve something. You never know.

exactly right. sorry, odb, read it, instantly turned into a child and had to take it out of context. no disrespect meant by it.

your point was well made and in fact, i agree with it. some people have turned to the bnp because they believe that no other party can deliver the tough stance they believe is needed for certain issues, ie. immigration. it doesnt mean this portion of their supporters are racist, they have lost faith in the current system and in their desperation have turned to a wolf in sheep's clothing. a short term solution with long term wrongness. they should not be persecuted for their beliefs, just like any other belief.

oh and for the record the bnp are racist, nationalist, xenophobic, and misguided. in the extremely unlikely event that they ever reach power this country would become more and more isolationist, resulting in, amongst other things, the collapse of our economy and widespread poverty. certainly dont have my vote. ever.

You know, we'e lucky that black people don't feel the same way, because if they wanted to start a black power movement we'd be well and truly screwed. As an average your intelligence isn't affected by your heritage, so it stands to reason there would be an even match there, but their bodies are built for and have adapted to much harsher conditions that we have to endure here, and as such tend to be more athletic and resillient to the environment.

In short if they started a war with us now we'd lose, big time, BNP, NF or not.

starting a black power movement and having a civil war using only hand to hand combat where people rely on their god-given talents are two very different things, you know lol

also, your conjecture is based on a few unsubstantiated throw-away comments.. i'm sure if you looked up evidence to back up your claims, you'd be surprised..

Sorry to wee on your bonfire, but the library do not have the BNP website blocked. You're going to have to come up with another reason for wanting them to stand!

The library do, however, have Redwatch blocked - which the BNP claim to have nothing to do with anyway. I can't even see my own pictures!

This would never happen. By allowing them a platform to speak, it legitimises the BNP - which is exactly what they want!

The BNP are trying to come across as respectable politicians - councillors hardly ever speak in council meetings (that's if they turn up to them!) because a lot of them have orders to keep their traps shut, in case they say something that might be what they actually think... Also, presumably, so that they don't come out with such things as Steve Batkin's contribution to one Stoke on Trent City Council meeting: "What does 'abstain' mean?" - I shiz you not.

Indeed, that is a fine picture of N. Griffin. How about a video - have you seen this little gem? Nick Griffin stars between 0:48 and 1:41, although you may find the background information useful.

I've now seen the list. It has confirmed the arsehole status of one person at least.
