BT Infinity & other fibre broadband in Stafford.

There's already a thread about BT Infinity (BTs name for fibre broadband).

Three cabinets along Baswich Lane have been upgraded in the last month or so, with numerous others across the town. Baswich Lane is on the Stafford Exchange, meaning slow speeds due to the length and ageof the copper!

I called BT for an idea on timescales and they couldn't give information (I was speaking with sales)

Thanks for pointing that out; I've merged the two threads. :)

Not trying to be Pedantic but can BT Infinity be removed from the thread title as it's not BT Infinity Fibre that's just what BT retail brand their product as. I think the way they market the product "BT Infinity ONLY from BT" is misleading enough. Plenty of other suppliers will offer the fibre product they purchase from BT Wholesale.

1st March is the date I've been told for Stafford. However these dates do seem to be continually pushed back. I'd be surprised if Wildwood is on by March as they haven't pulled the fibre yet never mind the cabs.

As far as I know, as of yet, no other service prefer has access to BT Fibre. Sky are in negotiations, but nothing firm yet. I suspect it will come down to Ofcom intervention.

As a business we resell ENTA which has fibre products for both business and home. PlusNet also have a fibre portfolio.

You can see a list of others here:

I have changed the thread title to something that will hopefully keep everyone happy. ;)

Thanks Admin.

Jimbo,

The product is available for purchase from BT Wholesale so nothing stopping Sky taking it on board. The BT Infinity pricing is very competitive so maybe they decided to sit it out ?

They are about to start running trials of 80mb down and 20mb up, is that more than Virgin?
Tit for tat it seems:

Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speeds

Combined with the current cashback deals for VM broadband, that could be one hell of a deal for cheap, fast internet.
I got an email last week about speeds being doubled, then today I got this:

Hello there,

Oops! That last email, 100Mb Broadband Announcement, was sent in error.

Please ignore this, and rest assured current Virgin Media Cable Broadband customers will be receiving some good news about their broadband in the next 2 weeks. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The Virgin Media team
Bah!

Hi

Plusnet are part of BT these days as far as I know.

I spotted a BT van near the new local cab on saturday so asked the guy working. Derrington should be getting fibre to the cabinet when it is launched for the Stafford exchange (finally we might get broadband that can keep up with a youtube video).

All the best

Keith

What did the "100mb e-mail" say?

I saw this and assumed they mistakenly sent an e-mail out saying everyone was getting 100 meg.

As far as I know though, they are still planning to double speeds...

It said everyone doubles apart from the 100Mb, who get 120Mb. Hardly worth paying the extra tenner a month really! Anyone on 20Mb would get 60Mb though, as they are moving to 20/60/100/120 as their tiers.

Seems all 50Mb customers will get 120Mb now!

Majority of the vans out and about at the moment will be involved in pulling fibre.
You seem to know what you're talking about... If we've got new cabinets fixed, what is left to do/how long will it take?

SamKnows shows the FTTC status for the Stafford Exchange as Ready For Service on 1/3/2012 - those dates can and do change, but backs up the 1st March date you were given.
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/WMSPA

- I'm not sure if BT would (or wouldnt) mark the exchange as Ready For Service before they've enabled all areas...

Hi

As I understand it the exchange will be marked as ready for service when the first cabs are available. This doesn't mean that all (or even most) cabs on that exchange have been set up, or ever will be.

All the best
