Can anyone recommend anywhere for Christmas Day Dinner?

After having pondered about the above for long enough myself, I thought it was about time I put forward the question to my fellow Stafford Forum members :)

Can anyone recommend anywhere to go for a Christmas Day meal? We have previously been to The Essence of the Orient and The Swan but we fancy doing something a little different this year. Any suggestions would be most welcome :)

Must have been a few years ago that you went to The Swan as since we have owned it we have never opened on Christmas Day. Bah Humbug and all that!! :snowman:

Why not try Aston Marina or Moddershall Oaks, Stone :toot:

I far prefer a good old home style christmas dinner, followed by a couple of Disaronno & cokes and feet up infront of the telly watching Mrs Browns Boys on DVD :D

Yeah we are going back a good few years ago now. I think we've had our Christmas meal there a couple of times - it was always very nice!

I quite agree, but unfortunately three of us are working both Christmas Eve and Boxing Day so don't really fancy slaving over a hot oven for most of the day. That is primarily our reason for going out so we can have a nice relaxing day :)

My parents went to Pastiche the year before last and said they would go again which coming from my mother is very good.

We pulled out all the stops a couple of years ago and went to the Radford Bank, it was chaos, wouldn't go again.:snowman:

Just about to say DONT go to Radford Bank as well.

We booked up for a Boxing Day night for 5.30pm. Struggled down there on foot in deep snow & ice and got there about 5.15pm, only to be greeted with a"Sorry we are closing now, we closed at 5pm today !" .Told them we'd had a table booked for months, showed them the booking/payment slips (with our address & phone number clearly on so they could have given us a ring if they had decided not to open that evening) . "Oh, Ok then you'd better come in & we'll stay & serve you a meal".
The most embarrassing meal we have ever had. Just us 3 sat there eating it with all the staff waiting around with their coats on,watching every mouthful go in . Stuffed it down us as quick as we could to get out of there.

Would never go back again!

Thanks for the recommendations and feedback :)

We had thought of Radford Bank but I can't imagine it being overly different from a normal weekday carvery ... I may be wrong though.

Someone had mentioned the Woseley Arms at Woseley Bridge to us. Has anyone been there for Christmas dinner? We've also considered The Shire Horse ... Meals I've had there have always been very good.

I know some one who went there 2 years ago for Christmas dinner and said it was busy and they enjoyed the food. Although I was mortified that they had Christmas on their own in the pub so they graced me with their presence last year (and probably will this year too) but I think they would have gone again if I hadn't offered them a turkey bone to chew on.

My husband also works over Christmas, if we dont go out for Christmas dinner we cheat! We buy lovely pre-prepared Christmas day food (M & S), it can all usually be cooked in the containers that it comes in, we also buy cheap plates just for Christmas day and once we finish Christmas dinner we throw the lot in the bin! Failing that invite yourselves round to a relatives or friends for their Christmas dinner ;)

If you fancy something a bit different, we went to Malabar last year (had originally booked at Chambers but that's another story altogether!!). The guys at Malabar were great - very accommodating, no rushing you out, very relaxing! We had a choice of Indian or Traditional Turkey - but us being us we wanted to mix & match - so curry with roast potatoes it was!! (Christmas Dinner HAS to include roasties!!) Was a fab day, reasonably priced and would happily go again (although having a peaceful day at home (with maybe a trip to The Sun for a couple) this year).

Well after careful consideration, we'd decided to go to The Wolseley Arms at Wolseley Bridge for Christmas Dinner. However, they've been fully booked since August!

Back to the drawing board again :(
