Castle Tavern Steak House!

The Tavern was open again when I walked past last night. Looks normal service has been resumed...i.e. still no customers!

i can't believe it, i would have thought selling expensive imported meat with undercooked chips and miserable customer service was a perfect business model..

I've not been back since they had half the menu missing, missed items from the things they would let us order, and charged extra for chips with a steak. Its a shame, if you look back the place was great for the first year or so.

Only tried the place once, back when Ash had it. Good beer (Slaters), good service but the steak was definitely below par on the night.

Just spoken to the building's owner, Raja, and it looks like John has thrown in the towel, which is a shame as he was a top landlord. Alas, it would appear that another Stafford pub has served its last pint. Discussions are underway with parties interested in opening a Greek or Italian restaurant.

A sad loss, but a sign of the times. Good job we still have the best pub in the world in Castletown, though.

I would aim for Beef Wellington - the shed across the road is looking mighty busy theses days with high expectation of office

Would be interested to know what John was being charged for the place, Raja ownes it outright doesn't he? Free houses seem to fare better in these times than tied pubs, because they can choose what they sell and where to get it from.

Mind you, I loved the cider slush puppies they did and they immediately removed them. I know a few forumites felt the same, so hardly reacting to the customers needs.

I'll let you know when they're back on in the Greyhound. You can chain the kids to the railing outside. Just don't take my bike-space.
