@littleme you don't need to wait in the car, you can go home and isolate until you get your result - 30 mins from test - or an hour if there's a delay in sending out the messages.

Where's your local test centre? Kingston?

Take a book!

I am in a hotspot so really should book one before I go shopping, but then I see no one at all outside of this house, unless the people I run past count.
You won’t need a book.
The longest I’ve been there is about 40 minutes from arriving at carpark to driving away & that was the first time. When you book online if you set up a NHS account it’ll save a bit of time when you arrive. You won’t be waiting long as when you arrive you’ll still need to register your test details each time. It’s been a really efficient, well organised system all round each time I’ve been there & once you’ve done the test you leave & they text the result within about 45 minutes. Don’t arrive too early as you can’t get in the building until close to your slot time.
Once you’ve done it it’s so easy you’ll be keen to get it done regularly. EVERYONE SHOULD DO IT.

I was in and out within 10 minutes. Took longer to book me in as my phone wouldn't scan the code on the email , so the lady booking me in used her phone to do it and filled in my details on that for me. (I'd assumed it was me being thick at home not being able to do it, but she discovered it was my un-smart smartphone which wouldn't even work for her. )

I was offered the choice of doing the test myself , or them doing it for me.

Not being funny but people should do what they want within reason

I've not left the house really and when I have it's for exercise when noone else is around .being careful not to touch anything

Why do I need to do it?

and if I was to do it, i'd get a home-test

Ok, I'll rephrase that
Everyone that has to go out for work etc, especially those that have to come into contact with others should do it. After all that is the reason for pouring resources into community testing. Not everyone has the luxury of being able to stay home.

yes it's such a luxury being at home 24/7 not being able to see friends, do anything when your mental health was already shot in the first place, i'm having so much fun seeing nobody which helped before tons, I'd rather work even if it put me at "risk" if I could believe me, i'd probably have a 0.5 % chance of dying due to the virus at the most if I follow the stats for my age / health... would be better than this without putting to much info out there

Imagine being able to see people everyday have a decent income, and be doing something with your life, Oh the horror and the few people I know that are actually vunerable "keyworkers" aren't forced to work and rightly so...I do feel sorry for those in care/hospitals mostly seeing death more often..

Oh, it's amazing, in ways you wouldn't believe!

The grass is always greener.

I've worked all throughout the lockdowns. Apart from the obvious days off and annual leave. I have been on 2 full blown covid wards, both at St.Georges and at Royal Stoke. And I have to be 100% honest, I've been frightened beyond anything I've ever been before.
Due to the career choice I made many moons ago, I haven't had the luxury of being able to work from home, the youngest wouldn't take too kindly to a dementia patient rocking up on the doorstep of an evening.
One of our wards was covid free, then a visitor arrived, no symptoms, but they had socialised with someone, who had socialised with someone else, who worked at a nursing home that had an outbreak. My own ward at one point had 10 out of 12 patients positive with the virus and as I mentioned earlier at least 24 members of staff have been positive at sometime or another. 1 of those has had the virus twice. It has knocked them for 6, I haven't enjoyed watching them struggle for breathe, even tho they are now free of this horrible virus.
I thank God we haven't had any deaths, staff or patients.
So yes, I would love to be able to isolate at home.

Yes, probably well aware of the first miracle Jesus performed.

And John Wesley told his followers that they should never let the evil drink called tea touch their lips but should do like him an always drink pure water if available or beer

Well, yes, I can understand that.
I never drink tea.

Had a test today at Kingston and it was negative :) Thank @FooFighter and @EasMid for encouraging us to get tested.

It was quite busy when I went (like pension day at the post office) and a little chaotic when registering with attendees and staff moving around and walking fairly close.

The test itself was fine but it was quite noisy and I had to ask the nurse to speak up a few times, not sure it was her mask, her quiet voice, my hearing or just the background noise or a combination of all four.

I'll try to pick a quieter time next time but not sure when these are.

I've seen the figures for Kingston today and attendance is well up on recent days, same for me at Cannock too.
Quiet a few non booked walk ins which adds to the busyness. (real word?)
At Kingston we can accommodate 5 people every 5 minutes which is quiet a throughput on the phones booking part of the process

I'm at Kingston next week and will have a look for quieter times for you when I access the database tomorrow.
Will you be a weekly attendee?

Thanks. I probably won't go for a weekly test because I'm working from home and only leaving the house for exercise and shopping. I don't want to take a place when there are probably others who may need it more.

It was more a case of peace of mind before meeting my son that I could be a spreader without on knowing it.
