Anyone with half a brain could see the thing was not fit for purpose, there's no conspiracy just pure incompetence here. It was illegal to operate in domestic waters which is why they had to be in international wates.
It's not even a new thing, that's what's really frustrating about it. A normal every day couple won a competition and got married on the bow of the ship inside a metal tube 20 years ago. People have been going down there for ages now, paying $250k for the privilege in an experimental sub that doesn't meet any regulatory standards is just lunacy. The only new thing here was going down there in a human toothpaste making machine rather than a properly built submersible.What I DON'T believe is that "they are heroes" and "were trying to take a new step for humanity, to popularise undersea travel, to democratise the ocean floor" - but that's from Britain's biggest serial liar.
