Thumbs up to Railway dentist in Penkridge. I broke a tooth today and tearfully phoned the practice as I'm speaking at a ball tomorrow to see if there was any chance they could help. (I make it complicated as I have to take antibiotics 1hr prior to treatment) . Dentist agreed to see me in his lunch break and pretty painlessly sorted me out enough to not look like s hillbilly from the Simpsons. Very grateful.

Thumbs up to Mend Your Motor off Shrewsbury Road, just fixed our car was expensive enough but even so, they didn't charge us for a good three hours labour!! And diagnosed the fault with it for free!!!

Went into Stafford Tyres yesterday for 4 new rubbers on the wife's car. Have always gone there to support local business and because Charlie and Ade were great guys who treated you well.

Sadly a very different experience now they have gone and man who did job really needs to remember who is putting the money in the till.

My last visit there I thinks. Sad for them too as based on this experience they won't be getting the trade of 4 tyres on my 4x4 which need replacing.

So any other recommendations for local tyre companies welcome.

Cuffy for Houghton Furnishings, or whatever they now call themselves.

On reflection it would have been better if we'd bought something that was actually in the store and taken it away ourselves.

DD needed a new pair of jeans and NYE party top so had the misfortune to visit H&M today. To be fair it was nice and quiet ( how long will these stores tolerate poor sales I wondered?) but I digress; while standing waiting for said jeans to get selected I spotted an old lady wandering round looking like she was lost in a maze :(. Just as I observed her distress a lovely young sales assistant (Darcie??? maybe) walked straight up to the old dear and without being asked for help offered to assist the old dear in finding the sizes of the clothes she had chosen. Well done to H&M for such lovely service from one of our much maligned youth :) Warmed the cockles of me 'eart to witness!

More skills for the guys at FMS. Discovered an injector seal leaking in a massive way on Monday (fumes coming into the cabin, not good). Called them in the afternoon and they were open (cleaning everything in readiness for the year ahead). They sorted the issue out and left the car keys behind the desk at the bowling centre so I could collect the car after 6pm when I got in from work on the train. Marvellous !

Skill to Dreams - I recently purchased a new mattress, knowing nothing about them, and came away with an excellent deal. The man who helped me out was Donald ("Don"), very friendly chap and very helpful. They delivered the mattress on time, and telephoned five minutes before hand as requested, too.

Actually, the delivery blokes were very nice and ruthlessly efficient, too, taking the mattress upstairs for me.

Cuffy to the picture house. Never eaten in here before as if we go to a spoons it's the butlers bell. Served by a very rude guy who said he was the manager, not the usual service at weatherspoons, food was chewy and dry. This will be our first and last time here.

I was in there on Tuesday and the staff were friendly and the food good (though I did only have a panini and chips so nothing difficult/adventurous). It's a shame you had such a bad experience.

Big skill points to Dave in the spares department at Platts Fiat. Another dealer managed to keep hold of the key to the security locking wheel nuts on Mrs T's motor after carrying out some body repairs after a minor shunt.
So Dave's identified the pattern and loaned us one to allow us to remove the wheels to fit new brake pads. I'm borrowing it again tonight to refit the wheels.
