A couple of years ago I took my old escort cabriolet that I've restored to A1 on the Wolverhampton road to get a quote for a full respray. I'd used the garage loads of times when it was run by John (Mc something or other) and always been really happy with their work. Apparrently John had left and this other guy came and sneered at my car and basically said 'its gonna be over a grand' and walked off. I knew this was the going rate and would have been quite happy to pay that but his attitude put him out of the running there and then.
I couldn't help sniggering to myself when a month or so later this very same guy was pictured on the front of the Newsletter looking very sad because they'd closed the Wolverhampton Road for roadworks and this had taken all his trade away!
What goes around......
I've found similar attitude from them also, and have found them to be poor since the other guy left a couple of years ago. Particulary since I had cause to take my car elsewhere to sort a fault that they couldn't seem to get right and always told me it was my fault (probably so they could keep charging me) , it was rectified immediatley and cheaply by another garage and the problem has never occured again. I take my car elsewhere now and won't go near them.
As this is the skill and cuffy thread, could you tell us where you choose to take you business now :)

FMS is still pretty good but not the cheapest - I guess you get what you pay for though. I'll never darken A1's doorstep again - shame really, I've spent loads with them over the years.

Vision Vauxhall in Stafford - because they sell ex Enterprise leese cars - and tell you they have 1 previous owner (little misrepresented there). They are thrashed to death. I know this has a separate link (just in case anyone reviews Vision in Stafford)

Had loads of major issues with an Insignia car I purchased in June (12 months old) - finally palmed it off on another garage

Vision kept having the car back and did work on it - but still had problems with wobbly steering ... bit dangerous

Yes, I read about your plight on the other thread - i wouldn't generally consider a vauxhall, but if i did i would certainly be avoiding that place!

O/H's daughter booked her car in at Vision for some warranty work on the brakes, turned up at the at the scheduled date/time to be told the parts hadn't arrived. So she lost time off work, fuel from Eccleshall and back just because the numptys couldn't be bothered to call her and reschedule.

I called Chell's about giving my bike a service, been off the road for a few months now and could do with a going over. They said they could do it, but as its still in warranty (just!) I'd be better off taking it to a place in Stoke instead that is a registered service centre for them. Top marks for not trying to get my business when its in my best interests to go elsewhere - I just hadn't realised.

Black marks to Kwik Fit where I had (not by choice) to take car for two new tyres. Only took three visits before I got them. At first they weren't in stock, then they didn't bother phoning when they were, then turned out they ordered wrong tyres then magically fetched right ones off the shelf! They dont take much care putting car on ramp either.
I hate going anywhere near Stafford Kwik Fit.

Skill to No. 28 - the little gift shop on Crabbery Street- needed pressies for Sister in Law and Mother in Law, spotted the perfect bag, reasonable price for the sister in law, lovely service from the girl behind the counter, pottered around the rest of town for mother in law, no luck there, popped back to No. 28 an spotted the perfect purse, again lovely service, and since I was going to hide an itunes voucher in the purse she half wrapped it and gave me some extra ribbon.

There's some really lovely items in there, perfect for Valentines days (hint hint to anyone whose forgotten it's on Monday)

Cuffy customer service - Tony and Guy.
We purchased some GHD straighteners there 6 months ago - they cost £130 and they went wrong within weeks - we took them back and T&G told us they dont do aftersales on straighteners, we would have to deal direct with GHD. Which we did and were sent a replacement. Which have now gone wrong!!
I checked my rights before going in this time and discovered they should have offered us a refund or replacement themselves the first time around. I rang Consumer direct and they said that I should be entitled to a refund under the Sale of goods act because the quality of the straighteners isnt as expected, I dont want a replacement this time I am insisting on a refund. I didnt spend £130 to have two pairs go wrong within 6 months, you buy GHDs as they are supposed to be the best.
Got a reference number from Consumer direct and wrote a letter of complaint to T&G. Mr JC went in with the letter this morning and they refused to have anything to do with it, they said they couldnt do refunds anyway as the manager wasnt there and Mr JC pointed out that someone must act as the manager when the manager wasnt present but they said this wasnt the case, They said our contract is now with GHD as they supplied the replacement (consumer direct warned us they would say this and said this wasnt the case, especially as T&G sent us to GHD in the first place)
So Mr Jc has rang head office several times and they assured us the person who could give refunds in Stafford would ring us 'within minutes'. He didnt - so will be going through the same thing again tomorrow I expect.

All a load of BS in my experience, and something Overclockers in Stoke tried on me once. Your contract is with the people you purchased the item from, you have no contract whatsoever with the manufacturer and they don't have to deal with you.

As always I found talking very loudly and repeatedly mentioning breached sections of the sale of goods act worked a treat, they always cave in.

yeah been doing that all day, even wrote a letter quoting the relevant bits of the act for them and took it in, will be going in again tomorrow when apparantly the person who is actually allowed to give refunds is in!

I'm no gynaecologist...
Phillips Domestic Gas.

The man knocked the door and as soon as it was opened pushed past my 12 year old daughter making a 'B' line for the boiler. My daughter shouted for Torirat to come help as this man wasn't listening to my daughter one bit.
He started working until I arrived downstairs and asked to see some ID. When I made further enquiries as to what was this man doing in my home without invitation or appointment he got very aggressive, argumentative and rude. Eventually I had no choice but to phone my landlord to ask was this tradesmen expected at my property.
My landlord said no appointment had been made and this gentlemen was definitely in error. I asked him to leave as he was at the wrong house which eventually he did, only after I said that I thought it was a reasonable idea that I call the police.
I did point out to him that I had been entirely fair and reasonable about things even though he had got me out of bed first thing on a Saturday morning. No real apology was offered by him, or later his wife on the phone when I complained, they seemed to think it was funny.

My main complaint is the two sentences "do you want your fuc*king boiler serviced or what mate?" and "I fuc*king phoned you and left you a text message, so if your not going to agree to an appointment you only have yourself to blame".

A billion skill points to Jade Clothing. Shopping for a wedding dress for my best friend's wedding, we have been to numerous stores in and around Stafford. Aside from the usual bunch of very pushy sales people who don't understand why a wedding has to have a budget, some shops have a very snooty attitude.

But Jade Clothing were incredible helpful, friendly and understanding, pointed us in the direction of the second-hand designer dresses, explained the pricing system and payment plans, and even put a dress aside for my friend so she can get show her Mom before buying.

Excellent, helpful service, very good prices, friendly atmosphere.

SKILL x10. Stafford Train Station Staff.

Saw a fella this morning who came to the aid of an elderly lady travelling to Crewe. Told her the options and which she could go for. Told her it was totally up to her. She needed to be on a later train. He told her to keep comfortable and keep occupied and her would be back to escort her to the train of her choice.

Brilliant.

I was disappointed in Burtons yesterday - I was the only customer in there and was completely ignored by 3 members of staff, who were all looking as miserable as sin.......the only time they acknowledged me was when I went to pay at the till!!!
