Found out today that my sister told my nephew (now 20) that he had to get his own place if he wanted to continue putting videos online because she's been getting anonymous messages from people who don't like him with screenshots of her name and every address she's lived at. Part of the problem is that people are constantly pretending to be him with fake accounts (I've even had a few message me, unaware I'm his uncle!) and then scamming people out of money so if you go on on his videos you see lots of comments from people who lost hundreds or thousands and think it was him, meaning he gets targeted a lot of online "vigilantes" and trolls. It's madness.

(such messages etc have been reported but nothing ever seems to get done)

What on earth does he do online that leads people to paying “him” hundreds/thousands…?

I think the money he makes mostly comes from mentoring rather than crypto directly, at this point and he apparently also does a lot of "drop shipping" and other stuff of TikTok.

I tell you what, I gave it a bloody good go hanging on for this long but I think I have finally reached the point where the ways that young people are using the internet feel alien and baffling to me. I had a good run!

"Auditors" actually do a great job of exposing the over-reach of private security guards, and police using powers inappropriately (commonly the misuse of the terrorism act without any articulable suspicion). They regularly risk arrest, which are more often than not, quashed and compensated afterwards. There are a few auditors who give their compensation to charity.
Yes there are some just out to antagonise. Koleeberks springs to mind. However in the main they are innocently documenting change and progression in architecture and industry, and the availability and condition of public services that we are paying for. It is not their fault that some people on site or in public domains take exception to videography, which is completely lawful in a public accessible area regardless of what is being filmed, and only echoes what has already been captured by Google Earth.

Exposing the 'overeach' of some-poor-geezer saying 'why are you filming here?' when they are wondering why some asshole is filming 'here', is not the 'gotcha' you think it is.

As some asshole is flying a drone over a warehouse just off the M5 as if it is Area 51 and feeling aggrieved if someone asks them what they are doing is not some sort of exposé.

If you are being an asshole, and someone accuses you of being an asshole, you are not being persecuted, you are being described.
