Is there any reason this isn't in the Out & about section?
None at all; hence, it now is. :P

Thanks for pointing it out! Some of us get a little slow in our old age. ;)

Nipped in for a swift couple last Sunday lunchtime, nice beer, done a nice job of decor etc IMO. Sunday lunch looked a bit pricey, £12.00 one course £15.00 two if memory serves.

I took my fiancee for a birthday meal last night and would concur with the previous comments about the excellent food and service.

The place was packed both inside and outside but the service was prompt without being pushy.

The portions are fairly large so don't be tempted to order a side dish unless you're starving.

We'll definitely be going back.

Went here on Saturday lunch, for 6, for a x-mas get together, only people there when we arrived and were seated by the toilets...not a great start..... but I have to say the food was fantastic and the menu was great, and varied in price for those of us looking for slightly cheaper, I had Belly Pork, the gf had The D&D Burger with chips in a little frying basket for presentation (quirky YET FUN), others had Chicken, Veggie Tart, Faggots and Gammon....everybody said how great the food was, and how nice to see new and inventive presentation on old classics... our only other bug-bear about the whole experience is the service, i found it lacking (we waited 25mins for a jug of water), and the waiting-on staff were gossipy and slightly rude about other customers (the table by the toilet is also next to the waitress station)...so time for scores
FOOD:8/10
PRESENTATION:9.8/10
SERVICE:6/10
STAFF:4/10
OVERALL:27.8/40
GOOD FOR FOOD LOVERS, NEED TO SORT STAFF OUT

had a lovely meal at the Dog and Doublet last night.

Scollops...lovely
Duck....cooked to perfection
and cheese board .....enogh for 2 to share, could not finish mine, it was £7.95 ish which was quite expensive (not for what it was but as a third course) and maybe if they put a smaller one out for not so much that would be better. It was ciminal to leave so much cheese.

really enjoyed the night and would go back

Thanks fatfrog - I'll look at that on our next menu, most people do tend to share the cheese boards and a smaller cheese plate would be a good idea.

4 bottles of red wine between 3 of us drinking it did not allow the brain cells to think that logicaly but I wish I had as although cheese is the official food of the devil I sure could devour it now.

Is it polite to ask for a doggy bag? could be an interesting debate?

I always feel uncomfortable do that unless it is an indian or chinese and even then tend not to.

Thank you for the response Chris

The Thai Green Curry with monkish and prawns I had the other night was amazing. Broke 2 or my basic rules: 1) never order a curry in the pub and 2) never eat fish when meat is available.

I was glad I did. Good pub, good food, all done very well. Will definitely be heading back.

Mrs United 57 visited today lunch time with some friends. She said the steak was excellent. The service excellent. They even gave her a doggy bag for the salad she did not finish. Well actually not a doggy bag as such but it was wrapped up in the shape of a basket. They have certainly got some artistic staff.

Took the mrs last week (on Thursday) had been a few years previously before lewis brought it. We shared a baked Camembert to start, I had the pork belly and she had a prawn linguine, then both had really good puds... Definitely good food and would have no hesitation in going back or recommending it to others...
