Alternatively I'd speak with the vet receptionist you previously used and mention that you want to re-home a dog. They might have come across a few owners who are having second thoughts about keeping a dog due to changing circumstances . If they have a notice board put a "wanted" notice up. if you used a local kennels I'd suggest you try the same. I wish you luck in finding a new dog.
We got ours from Coven nearly 10 years ago and every day he's been a joy to have. 🦮

The reason there's an adoption fee is because these places all have vet bills to pay for. When getting a new dog they pay for neutering and other procedures. Better than paying over £1000 for a puppy. Also if it is a dog which is currently in rescue in Romania etc you're paying for transportation.

My two cost about £200 each. One of them is from Spain but she came over in a group of 10 from this rescue: https://greyhoundsinneed.co.uk/dogs_our_galgos/galgos_uk/

My greyhound came from here but they have all sorts of breeds: https://helpingyorkshirepoundies.co.uk/

Having lost our Charlie boy (male cat) recently..were looking to maybe re-home a new kitten..my preference is black & male as they're often overlooked through superstition, please don't suggest rescues as we are only one Rd away from a busy a Rd & they will refuse us ..this cat/kitten will be an indoor only cat ( the same as our 2 girls) so no danger of traffic...

Good luck with your search to give a kitten a new home . Glad you will be keeping any addition as an indoor cat to keep them safe.

I contacted a few rescues during covid, 2 flat out refused me any time as I didn't have a 6 foot fence enclosing my entire back garden, can't remember on the reason we didn't visit the third but I think it was because we both had jobs. Gave up looking at shelters after that.

I don't think rescues have a blanket ban if the cat is an indoor one. I'd try Tracy's kitty cat rescue Walsall way. Had my last 2 from there, black and white males for the same reason, with minimal invasive judgey pre-adoption questions. They have a FB page but I have no idea how to link!

Should depend on the breed really. A sausage dog isn't going to get over a normal sized fence. The lady who was fostering my greyhound had much lower fences than me.

We didn't even get to the point of looking, COVID made that more difficult anyway but we were told at the outset rear garden enclosed by 6 foot fence is required.
