doing all the little things I don't usually do to reduce electricity use at home as well.
Without making any special extra effort, I note from my "Sunday at noon" meter reading just now, that this has been the first week since I started, over a year ago, that the (occupied) house has used under 30 kWh in the week.

27.9, actually, so the merest touch under 4 per day, and I have been running a bit of garden machinery, too.

It's gone up 20p in a week, that's over a tenner per tank 😦
I was thinking more the difference between the supermarket and branded sellers as the overall difference in price rises in total. A 2p/litre difference seems significant on a billboard but if you filled my jag from empty it’d mean the difference of £1.12 for the tank

Ha ha, the irony of someone who accused me of boasting I had an EV then themselves boasting of having a Jaaaaag.

Certainly a lot cheaper than the equivalent evs 😊 (and not bought new so unsure what the boat is).
I couldn’t use the Volvo as an example as it has a 16 gallon tank and costs a fortune to brim no matter what

Glad I brimmed the tank last Monday as the place I filled up at has gone up 8p per litre in a week. Looking at the oil markets I can see more rises to come. Is £2 a litre possible?

Something for us all to look forward to, I'm sure.

£1.75 a litre soon.
That'll be £1 a pint or £8 a gallon in proper money.

I might be wrong but I think the Texaco (ex-esso) on lammascote was mid 170s for diesel on Sunday...I only say that as I mentioned to the wife that I'd never seen a 25p/litre differential on high Street forecourts....

I filled up at Tesco, with diesel, at 158.9 at tea time then drove past BP on Foregate tonight and it was 172.9. That disparity alone is criminal never mind what Texaco are charging!
Will we learn anything from all of this? Probably not.

In the 70's I can remember working on a VLCC* carrying about 240,000 tons of oil from the Persian Gulf to Europe via the Cape of Good Hope. (Suez couldn't take a ship of that size and draft at the time.) It was about late September/early October and as we were ploughing up the coast of West Africa we got orders to pull into an inlet near Dakar, drop the hook and await further instructions. They estimated the wait would be about a month. No reason was given but the Old Man, who had worked for this particular oil company (one of the seven sisters**) for some years, told me it was because the oil price per barrel usually climbed up as Winter approached, and this routine was not unusual.

There are about 7 barrels to a ton, so the ship carried about 1,700,000 barrels (I've melded long tons and metric tonnes here for the sake of clarity.) So if the price of a barrel goes up a few dollars, we're talking mega-money here. The cost of paying the ship's crew and other consumptions is pretty miniscule in this calculation.

*VLCC Very Large Crude Carrier also described as a Supertanker. They're double that size these days.

**I've deliberately not mentioned the ship's name which would give away the name of the Company. Last thing I want is button men coming after me. :P

In the end we were there about a fortnight, then got orders to kick 'Lands' End for Orders' into touch and fast steam for the LOOP (Louisiana Offshore Pipeline) so I figured a better deal had been made ... but that's another wheeling and dealing story.
