Fuel Wankers.

There hasn't been much profit in forecourt sales for decades, that's why most filling stations run shops.

I think most people know that fuel prices are largely fictional, based on what the market can get out of the customer, plus various duties and taxes. Production and distribution costs vary only very slightly over time. If people want state-controlled energy supplies, it would help if they voted for it, or, at least, not against it - good luck with that in Stafford.

Isn't half what you pay duty anyway? So it's in the Govs interests for it to rise, to a point. Anything you save each month is a wasted opportunity to them.

Yeah, that's why the road fuel duty where I am was dropped a few days ago, to keep the 'revenue' side of the price to about the same amount of money - but, you don't have to bother about that, if you have no fear of your electorate.

There used to be a joke when I worked crude carriers at sea. Petrol is the most expensive waste product that pops out of the top of the cracking tower. :P

On a cultural note, I was discussing this thread with a rather demure old ladyfriend and she expressed some disquiet - but not about the escalating fuel prices. It seems her sensibilities had been offended by the heading ‘Fuel Wankers’. She suggested the forum moderator might want to change it to ‘Fuel Onanists’.

Talking of mega rich money grabbing bastards I can remember many years ago (possibly 20, probably a lot more) when crude soared to $90 a barrel people where predicting petrol prices could soar to £1 per litre (it was actually a lot less than that at the time) The last price I saw for crude (earlier this week) was just under $120. 🤔

I remember fuel dropped to $22 a barrel two years ago but petrol prices only fell to about £1.05 a litre…

Last week Frankley services was 157.9 for unleaded so we topped up there. This week we sailed past seeing it had gone up to 174.9
Filled up at a Tesco in Worcester for 158.9 today for a change. ( Then spent more than what we'd saved on petrol on jam doughnuts and steak slices instead ,when we nipped into the Tesco loos . )

Had to go to London this weekend, definitely noticed people driving slower
I noticed there were lots going slower on the motorways last weekend , and even more today .
I decided to try to stick to 60mph today , like quite a few others around me were doing, to cut the petrol bill down a bit, . But with unusual lack of traffic , and a clear motorway for a change, found myself creeping up at times.

Been down to Nailsworth (Forest Green Rovers) today. Less traffic on the motorway than I expected and, yes, a lot going well under the speed limit (between 50mph and 60mph seemed very popular).
