No diesel at Tesco this morning when I filled up the work vehicle. "Luckily" that car needs petrol. I say "luckily" as it cost £126.45 to fill it up.

I'm unsure why there would be diesel rationing. Is there a shortage of diesel? Haven't used diesel since 2008 so I'm a bit out of the loop on this.

Seems to always run out before petrol, but no idea why as haulage firms don't tend to fill up at petrol stations?

I have seen it said that around half of the UK's diesel is/was imported, rather than refined in the country - and about a third of that half was from Russia. This may or may not be true, of course.

The petrol side of things is largely produced 'at home' - rather more hazardous as a cargo, as well, I suppose.

I think that's down to people constantly topping up before the next price increase. And thanks to government policy during the 2000s through to mid teens there are many more diesel cars on the road than petrol.

Aha, according to an RAC Foundation document (that I can't link to because it's a PDF) that I've just read, you are spot-on, sir.

I can't be bothered to do the maths but they'll still be clawing back more in duty even with this cut than they were 3 weeks ago.

Thanks to Rishu Sunak I will now be saving a huge £3.30 when I fill up my car. I’ve also cancelled Netflix so I should be able to buy a house this time next week
Has Netflix stopped serving Russian subscribers?

If so, then they'll all be buying up the entire UK housing market already, surely?
