The bit that is still going ahead (according to Rishi) is the Handsacre/Birmingham Curzon Street to Old Oak Common stretch of phase 1, with the Old Oak Common to Euston bit the subject of some funding issues, before it can also be confirmed. As far as I know it is only the Birmingham to Manchester bit that has been cancelled, the London to Birmingham stretch is still going ahead (at least for the moment)
I've dreamed of getting to old oak common in 45 minutes! Now what train from stafford goes to handsacre...The bit that is still going ahead (according to Rishi) is the Handsacre/Birmingham Curzon Street to Old Oak Common stretch of phase 1, with the Old Oak Common to Euston bit the subject of some funding issues, before it can also be confirmed.
The Handsacre (not Birmingham) to Manchester bit is the phase 2 bit that has been cancelled and the eastern bit has long been consigned to history, as has HS3 (Manchester-Bradford-Leeds).
Let's not worry about the 10s of billions of pounds that we have wasted on the bits that have been cancelled, plus the 10s of billions we are still wasting on what is left. I mean who need a well funded NHS, when you will be able to get from Handsacre to Old Oak Common in 45 minutes.
So i said, with all the dignity I could muster.Next train to London is..
On Tuesday
That's because we've not got HS2 yet.Next train to London is..

Then it will be:That's because we've not got HS2 yet.
Yeah but you'll get old oak common 10 mins faster than before! Then wait 10 mins for the connecting train, and pay twice as much for the pleasure. Then it will be:
Next train to Old Oak Common is..

Lobsters up the bumSo i said, with all the dignity I could muster.
"Is this any way to run a fu@king ballroom " ! ?....

I still talk to shoes once in a while, now married with a kid and a second on the way I think. He has, funnily enough, just started training as a train driver!I just went back to the first page of this thread which was started in 2010.
Some names I remember, I wonder what happened to Shoes, Henry’s Cat and Stoofer34?
I'm sure Henry's Cat was replying Stoke Sentinel comments recently, same name and writing style (humorless and pedantic)I just went back to the first page of this thread which was started in 2010.

I saw he'd posted that. I hope he does well in the training. Not an easy job, friends husband has been a driver for years, he's seen some rough sights.I still talk to shoes once in a while, now married with a kid and a second on the way I think. Yeah, can imagine it having it's downsI saw he'd posted that. I hope he does well in the training. Not an easy job, friends husband has been a driver for years, he's seen some rough sights.
Easier just to pay loads of overtime.Yeah, can imagine it having it's downs
He applied in 2020, not accepted til 2022 but they had no jobs available so he had to wait until 2024, and then start 2 years training. They really don't seem to like having enough drivers!
It's just HS2 phase 2a (plus a bit) by another name. Slightly reducing the speed will save very little and doing it in stages will just stretch it out for decades.HS2 v2.0 possibly?
Mayors flesh out plan for Midlands-North West rail - Place North West
A part private sector-funded 80km railway line connecting Lichfield to High Legh in Cheshire should replace the scrapped Northern leg of HS2, say Andy Burnham and Richard Parker.www.placenorthwest.co.uk
I couldn't find a map, which is annoying because I like maps
