High-speed rail plans announced by government.

None of Ms Clarkes statement is true.

Typical Tory, always lying.
Well, if "a golf club was split in half" that's it then.
Worse happened when the M6 was built through the constituency so was that project a mistake ?
There was massive opposition in Kent when HS1 was proposed but I doubt if anyone now thinks that was "a white elephant".
Short termism and not thinking beyond the next general election is what the Tories are all about.

Have they blamed it on the immigrants yet?

But it's a golf club. Golf clubs are stuffed full of Tory voters. Well, probably not that one any more.

Yes indeed. And no doubt a golf club photo opportunity for our MP this week.
Our MP comments "I commend the Prime Minister for having the guts to make this decision", that being the Prime Minister who gets a helicopter whenever he wants to go anywhere without a thought to everyone else who relies on lesser forms of transport.
And surely it should be Parliament's decision, not the PM's.

You are clearly living under the misapprehension that we are living in a parliamentary democracy.

Well, I'm sure I grew up in one.

"A golf club was split in half" but rest assured that Theo Clarke is working hard for the golfers of Stafford.

Strangely, this is huge advantage for Stafford, as the Handsacre link to Stafford has survived, but the bypass line to Crewe has been scrapped.

Whilst the whole HS2 project has been a farce and a financial mess, only one location is likely to benefit from the changes announced today and that's Stafford. I'm not sure even our MP has grasped that. Oh, hang on, I am sure, she hasn't!

She definitely hasn't, because that would mean the golf course would still need to be split.

It would have been the bypass line to Crewe that would have split any golf course in Stafford; that's part of the section that's been scrapped.

But the Hansacre link doesn't go through the constituency.
She'll probably be made Honorary Lady President of whichever golf club it is.

The Handsacre link sends the High Speed trains to Stafford. The now scrapped bypass line to Crewe would have taken most of them away again.

As a result of today's announcements, Stafford becomes to the gateway from/to High Speed 2.

Of course, after the next election, it could all change again.

Some of us can remember when Eurostars were going to stop in Stafford.
I remember the Eurostars going through Stafford on test runs. The service got so close to starting that the services from Stafford to Brussels / Paris were included on the timetable posters at Stafford station.

I also remember the Advanced Passenger Trains going through Stafford. That one even went into service for a few days, before it was scrapped.

We have a long and proud history of scrapping major infrastructure projects.

Yes, I happened to notice the Advanced Passenger Train passing under the Queensville Bridge, forty years ago I think.
And then at Stafford railway station I saw a 125 for London Waterloo which was the advance version of the through train to the continent that never happened.
There were through trains to Brighton for a while.
Can't even get a train to Norton Bridge now.

I never saw a Eurostar, but I do remember the poster and worked out that you could go to Avignon on a day trip, with about three or four hours there.

I 'think' that I had a 'handout' timetable, which I may still have...

The APT spent a bit of time leaning over on the tight bend behind GEC
