I'd better get on it. Anyone been on the Kent coast its a place I've quite fancied?
I lived in Kent near the start of the 90s. I was in Medway then but visited the coast a lot. It was lovely then and I have no reason to believe that it has changed. If you are heading that way I suggest a day in Rochester, it's lovely. Strood and Chatham, not so much.

Chatham, ah yes, I remember that the sadly now closed London, Chatham and Dover Railway Tavern in Battersea had one of the longest pub names last century.

If I'm going in this country I normally look on cottages.com and also do searches to find more local ones.

I don't think I've done a package holiday for about 25 years. Always do flight through the airline then more research for accommodation. Booking.com is often good due to free cancellation.

I usually book a cottage if holidaying in this country and use Hoseasons or Sykes. I think Cottages.com are now Hoseasons.

If you use Vrbo, use the site they direct you to rather than book directly with them because they add a hefty service charge.

Also if you get the chance to contact the property owner directly it is worth doing because they will often offer a discount over the booking companies.

With the current COVID situation I've been taking out cancellation insurance just in case as well but you can't do this if you book directly with the owner.

Final tip and no I'm not trying to divert the thread, honest but some holiday companies give a 10% discount to CAMRA members. I've saved some substantial amounts of several hundreds of pounds for a membership fee of just over £25.

Get the flights cheap then Airbnb usually, rarely spend much going abroad but admit its not what a lot want. The azores for example cost under 600 for 2 people for 2 weeks with car rental.
I'm thinking of the Azores for part of my 40th trip, I'd forgotten you'd been. I may pick your brain at some point.

Where are you staying Trumpet. August I rented a 2 bed flat that overlooked the harbour. It was fantastic. That was through Sykes for those interested.
