Is the Meadowcroft Park area nice? Advice on where to buy!

Yes I've noticed the garden is very small, but the house interior I thought was ok. I've been looking into Baswich, Walton and Weeping Cross but where is Hillcroft Park? Can't find it on the maps...
I think it's Walton on the Hill - could be wrong though?

I don't mind which part of town actually, although the HMP is a little off putting in the north (sorry if that offends anyone)
I used to live right near the prison and it really isn't a problem at all but looking at the areas you have mentioned it's really not the same kind of area.

There's also the Psychiatric hospital, right next door to the prison. Bung 'em all together.

If you want walks and open space then its a no brainer, the North end. We have Stafford common which his massive and beautiful, the Isabel trail disused railway line which is awesome for cycling and walking and Doxey Marshes nature reserve.

Frankley I'd rather we didn't have any more commuters driving everywhere and pushing up house prices but don't take that personally! Also, the drive to Birmingham is an absolute arse at the times of day you will be doing it. The m6 is one large traffic jam in the main for commuters. I'd recommend buying by the train station, save the expensive car parking fees in that area, and taking the train...

Stafford Common massive and beautiful, really??? It's a big field isn't it?

Isabel trail awesome, why so???

Doxey marshes and car commuting - spot on. Train is best if in central Bham.

More commuters - you do realise the majority of Stafford dwellers commute these days don't you?

The majority of locations in Stafford will have walking and parks within a short distance and we have Cannock Chase on our doorstep as well as Staffs Moorlands and Derbyshire not too far away.

Have you actually been on the common? Its a beautiful natural space with a variety of flora and fauna. Gorgeous tall butercups in spring, a range of birds all year and it's massive!

The Isabel trail? Really. It's awesome. A 3 mile long trail used extensively by cyclists, runners and walkers that traverses a nature reserve and is lined with trees that are home to a wide variety of birds and that links town to the whole north end. I think having this on my doorstep is the best thing about Stafford! It might be the only good thing tbh!

If I was moving from Brum I'd choose Lichfield but hey ho!

Hi all, my husband and I are thinking of moving to Stafford so we can commute to Birmingham for work. Saw a house in the Meadowcroft Park area near the football club that we really liked, but we are not sure about whether the area is nice. Any advice or thoughts on the area? Will it be noisy/rowdy near the football club? Have never lived near any sport facilities before (and we are not sporty people).

Our budget is about 180k, 200k max. We have no kids yet. We prefer to be in walking distance to some shops (doesn't have to be huge ones) and walking distance to parks/green spaces/canals(basically nice walking routes, if parks the bigger the better). We have a car so don't have to rely on the train. Don't mind rural locations -- but houses don't come up that often in the villages.

If anyone can let us know of any areas to avoid, or any areas to recommended, that would be superb! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, welcome, you'll be well served for canals and walks etc there, we live between where you're looking at and town and have a lovely balance of things to do.

Happy house hunting

Hi @ellyria & welcome!

I don’t know that area very well but there aren’t any really bad areas in Stafford, there are a few streets that have a bad reputation but aren’t anywhere near as bad as a lot of other towns - so it’s good to ask but it’s all relative to what you’re familiar with.

You didn’t say where you are moving from, but I would definitely say that Stafford is a good place to commute from and the train is the quickest option to Birmingham. So walking distance to the station could be beneficial to you. Stafford’s small enough to not be far from open space and as others have said we are right on the doorstep of Cannock chase.

There are some other threads that people have asked similar questions on that you might find useful.

Good luck and I hope you find a lovely home !

Oh and another thing. Alstom Power is very close judging on the maps. Is that a factory/power plant or just some office buildings? Any pollution to be worried about? (Sorry, totally newbie to the area)
We live on the Crossings estate off Lichfield road next to GE (alstom as was) and there's no pollution..... They make super massive electric transformers..... As factories go it's very quiet indeed.

We moved here 10 years ago from Stoke and I drive to the M5 J2 for work....

NO!. If you want somewhere to hide your stolen bikes & goods, or somewhere to snort (or whatever you do with it) your Monkey Dust in peace, then Stafford Common is for you, Isabel trail is handy when youve nicked a bike, or something from one of the large supermarkets in town & need a quick get away to stash it in bushes on the Common.

Dont forget, you can sell all of your stolen goods at the noisy car-boot sale thats held every Sunday (& bank holiday monday) on Stafford Common to the chorus of the Shouty-meat-man & police sirens, & hopefully you wont bump into any of the criminals that are housed nearby to the local primary & high school.

I think the Isabel Trail is barely two miles.

Shouty Meat Man has not been on the Common when I have this year - in the Market Square on Wednesdays, though, I believe.

Hi, I'm a Stafford Rangers fan but I do watch games at Brocton Football club a couple of times a season. I would estimate that they get 50 - 75 fans at an average home game. Whenever I've visited the ground most visitors drive and park at the ground, as such the access drive does get little busy at FT. Games will be played mid week and on Saturday.

I live in the south of Stafford and commute by train to Birmingham everyday. I used to drive to Birmingham...don't do it! It's an 1.30hr drive each way and nobody deserves that. Get the train. A season ticket will cost in the region of £1.8k

Trains to Birmingham are fairly regular, for example in the morning 7.40; 8.01 and 8.10 etc. The 8.01 is very busy so try and get on the other trains. I get the 7.40.

I'm looking to move house next year but I'm only considering houses in the south of Stafford and within 10 - 15 minute walk of the station. I have previously lived in the north or Stafford but I prefer the south. Only a personal preference and largely due to the location of friends and family; my favourite pubs; preferred schools for my children etc.

I grew up in Stafford, left and returned in my 30s. I think it's a nice place to live and i hope you will be very happy here. Welcome.
