I wonder who employs the taxi marshal at the rank..should they not be checking that they are legitimate taxis before they usher people into them?
you would hope so, we've had a dodgy one before and called the police immediately, he was legit but was not from the area. he was very perculiar and worrying too.

It's a bit of a strange thing to lie about isn't it? Having spent some time in Lissey's company I certainly don't believe she'd stretch the truth on such a matter, it's not exactly trivial.

Thank you lucy, I appreciate the post. I heard it first hand from the person it happened too, who I know well and trust implicity, she is a business woman and married mother who is not prone to hysteria. there are many vile and scary things that happen and never get reported in the press. I am not interested in idle gossip, just thought I would let people know so they can be aware or perhaps come forward with information.

So, uh, this seems pretty serious is there a news article or something? If this is a real story it seems like something that would be reported
Not everything has to be reported in the news to be true and most things that are reported in the news are misconstrued from the truth.

This is a series incident and it is good that we have a vehicle such as the forum to forewarn people rather than wait to read it in the papers.
Anyone is free to post on this forum, if this were to be reported by a newspaper of website they would mention sources and have confirmation. A story like this is one that would be good news to report (as is clear from this thread people are interested).

Without a third party source how can this be verified, if this really happened you'd expect a police report to exist and some sort of investigation to happen, both of which a newspaper or website could rely on as evidence to report.

I am not interested in idle gossip, just thought I would let people know so they can be aware or perhaps come forward with information. I hope nothing this horrid happens to someone you know, who then gets doubted by people like you. its not very helpful is it? she and I are both far too busy to make stories up for the likes of you to be doubtful about.

This sounds extremely serious and I'm so glad the girls got to safety. I must admit If I'm out on a Saturday night I don't tend to look out for the licenses etc as I'm getting into the Taxi. I use the marshalled ranks so assumed the marshals would be checking the taxis pulling up in it to make sure they're legit - Is that not their job?? thinking back though to be fair they usually just tell me to step forward and use the next available taxi. Maybe they should be writing down reg numbers or something.
I shall have to be more vigilant! Scary stuff!

thats exactly what happens at the rank - its like a cattle market= you dont get chance to look or check anything. you would assume more so at a Marshalled rank that you're safe. (even A legit driver could be a pervert a license just means that they havent been caught yet) it really could happen to anyone and is quite common in London.

fingers crossed he's caught.

ugh.

I wasn't saying it's fake or that anyone here would fake it, I'm just saying before we blindly assume it is real some sort of external "proof" would be nice.

Scary Stuff - I'm glad your friends managed to get out safely in the end.

Thanks for making us aware of this Lisseylee. On the rare occasions I catch a taxi I never think about asking to see ID- Will certainly check in future!

Why do you need proof and do you actually believe everything that is reported?

It's been posted as a warning and many of the subsequent posts are good reminders or good advice to follow when we may not necessarily be at our most compos mentos.

In any case our local "Proof of Evidence" rag would only misreport the story or overlook it in favour of a chinese cracker Twin Towers shock horror story.

a friend of mine had an extremely scary journey on Saturday night/ Sunday Morning. 22nd/23rd January 2012

She and a another female friend got in a taxi about 2am at the taxi rank by Casa, The driver had on a hat pulled down and a collar pulled up and would not talk to them at all. They were heading for Cannock and whilst the driver drove over the chase he kept slowing down and indicating to pull over and would not reply when they asked what he was doing.

The girls asked to see his ID, which he was going to go and get from the boot on the road in the middle of cannock chase, Naturally they declined, by this time one of the girls was screaming and crying and luckily for them a police car pulled in behind them at the little haywood turnoff on the lichfield road and followed them almost to Cannock. They eventually got dropped off, not at, but near one of their homes - The doors and windows had been locked by the driver for the entire journey and they could not get out of the car at any point, they were so scared they armed themselves with anything in their bags.

The driver didnt ask for payment but said 'must have been your lucky night' when they got out of the car.

The person this happened to is a level headed, business woman who is not prone to hysteria, she really did feel in danger and is sure things would have ended badly had the police car not appeared and followed them.

The driver did not seem to know the area well, had a standard white car, was at the Marshalled Taxi rank in town.

The incident has been reported to the police and they are reviewing CCTV, if you have any information please contact Stafford Police.

I SUGGEST THAT WE ALL ASK FOR ID FROM NOW ON!! VERY SCARY.
OMG that is scary!!!!!

Used to drive for westside several years ago myself, as a private hire driver.
Now I know who the "Toble" is ;) - and can't believe you're STILL there on the base!!
I wasn't there when you were there. Don't confuse me with Ancient Tony.
The only time you've met me was briefly once in Legion Pete's "Office".

I've received a number of emails over the years. Warnings about new 'date rape drugs' credit card scams' 'expensive phoneline scams' that sort of thing. They are forwarded on from friends of colleagues of friends of relatives etc.
I am very sceptical of them.

Yes, Criticsquid is asking for proof. Believing things you are told without further proof can be dangerous. I remember the mob smashing up the pedeatricans home (sorry if spelling is wrong) because someone had said a peadophile lived there. Think it was plymouth or portsmouth way.

I enjoy discussions on the forum but I hide behind an online name that aint mine and reveal very little details about myself just like many others do. If i so wanted I could place a thread with my own hidden agenda - eg attack a particlular business or person.
So I take some posts with a pinch of salt.

Whatever their standard of journalism, I expect when the local newspaper prints something they have checked it out with the police and will often quote a police officer.

What i think is impressive about forumites is there is always someone who remembers another related thread. It must have happened to me on at least three occasions. i think Gramaisc is usually on the ball. Am I being thick and there is an easy way to find related topics...sorry but I have now changed the thread topic

It's a matter of remembering, or guessing, words that might have been used and then using the excellent 'Search' function above.

I'm still impressed. Not sure my memory is that good, even if the search engine is

It's not always easy. I spent half an hour recently searching for a thread that I eventually found, by a roundabout route, had been deleted by Admin.
