Lake Sandon.

Enjoying a drop of red.
I did report an 'oil spill' into there some years ago and they did turn up and install a temporary absorbent barrage. It just seems to have become a permanent and 'accepted' situation now.
Collect a couple of large buckets of the stuff as a sample and deposit it on the floor of reception at SBC. See if they think it's an 'accepted' situation then.

Actually, there is a large yellow bucket there now, if anybody is passing.

Unsure who's accountable, SBC, SCC, Severn Trent Water Authority, Jacob Rees-Mogg or maybe just maybe some outfit of foreign climes.........

There's still probably loads of pollution left from when the firework/ chemically place went up, or whatever it was. According to the two Enviromental blokes me and the youngest spoke to, the whole area will be polluted for a long time, and not just 3 or 4 years.

Under riparian responsibilities it is the landowner who is responsible for maintaining the flow of a watercourse.

With regard to pollution it would be regulated by the Environment Agency. They should investigate who has caused it & prosecute to get it remediated (N/B if the culprit can't be located then it would probably fall to them to foot the bill for the clean-up hence why no one is probably doing anything about it!).

I was talking to somebody the other day, about this. They mentioned the connection with the salt works in the area and how things are still moving. I think, going by this claim, if you looked at an old picture of the wall along the front of the factory, that still exists, you compare it with now and see how much the corner of the site - and road! - have continued to move. Of course, being honest and mentioning this would mean having to help people a cost and reducing property prices. I just wonder what the surveys on any houses on that area say?

Not directly linked to Lake Sandon which im sure is currently filling up nicely, but while walking the dogs on the Marshes last night I noticed how narrow the channel that the river Sow flows down is nowadays. Whilst it's been very dry this year the foliage and blockages are now so big that the river channel is a couple of feet wide max at points. I could jump from one side to the other. When the rains come this water isn't going to speeding its way downstream that's for sure. The rugby club needs to watch out.. snigger 😁

Very heavy rain, so I imagine the lake will be massive today.
Lake Sandon made its weekly reappearance, as predicted. Like Brigadoon, but less welcome.

It's nice to see that Shell Island has a bollard again now, that's one less thing to consider when trying to navigate the area.

In a measure intended to help, I presume, a water storage facility has opened further up Sandon Road.

And the car park at the end of Drummond Road is doing its bit, too.

The drains that fill the lower balancing lake seem to have an automated pressure relief system.

I wonder if anybody has considered using the balancing lakes to retain the water currently in Lake Sandon and then release it at a rate that the clogged ditch can actually cope with?

There seemed to be plenty of reserve capacity available in either lake to contain many times the current volume of Lake Sandon.

Upper dam.

Lower dam. The hydrocarbon smell at that location was rather strong.

All six of these pictures were taken within fifteen minutes at around 11:20 to 11:35 today.

I went over the chase for a walk and the usual stream at the bottom of Camp Road was there as usual. As ever there was a conked out car just after it with a breakdown truck.

There was a car, just out of shot in the first picture, with the bonnet up and the front plate hanging off, but those attending to it had an air of hopefulness about getting it running, I felt.

Heading for the south of the town, I did discover other ephemeral lakes, by the hospital lights and at the turn off onto Lichfield Road from the Attwood's/KwikFit roundabout. Both of those required careful navigation.

Given Camp Road was too risky I went down the A34 to Broadhurst Green Road and that had a few flooded parts. Bear Hut Brownies has shut today due to a (roof?) leak somewhere.
