I saw a contortionist - street artist, cap out, that sort of thing - in Strasbourg [insert anti-EU-quib here] what was, now, a long time ago.

Without question one of the most disturbing things i've ever seen - he even ended his act on a genuwine-bona-fide 'bed of nails'.

Nobody needs that. It haunts me.

I remember watching a programme about Indian fakirs in the '70s = a great many strange things were shown, but, at one point, a chap lay on a concrete road, then a steel sheet was laid over him, with just his head sticking out - then, a load of people, around twenty or so, climbed into a lorry and it was driven over him - they even stopped on top of him and the passengers all jumped up and down.

The camera seemed to be rolling the whole time and it was difficult to see any fakery - it was also difficult to imagine why you would try it in the first place...

The guy in Strasbourg just kept inviting more and more of the audience to stand on a board he had placed over him, with the genuwine-bona-fide 'bed of nails' underneath him, until it became seriously unbearable to watch.- it seemed unlikely that someone could bear that kind of weight on top of them even if they didn't have sharp pointy things underneath them

Then the fecker got them to JUMP UP AND DOWN.

TBH it was more the things he did before he did all of that kind of caper that was more disturbing, but it was a proper 'icing+cherry-on-top' sort of thing with the whole bed-of-nails affair. He got some of my money that's for sure.

I don't need no more of it though.
