Local Elections 2019

ST16 Represent.
So looking at the fielded candidates for my ward, Common. Only one definitely lives in the ward, one didn't give their address, one lives in Eccleshall and one lives off Newport Road.
As Labour have lost me, this time I will go for the person that lives in the ward and vote Green. However, chances of Common voting in a Conservative from Eccleshall are high.

We used to have a similar problem. I've never voted along "party lines" in local elections, my choice has always been the person rather than the party. This year will be better, we've got 2 candidates living within the village. The candidate that lives over the road will probably get my vote, maybe we'll start to get things done now.
I'm always surprised at how many people don't think it's worth the bother voting in local elections.

I'll be following you voting green, the labour and conservative party have both been useless recently, so I'll be giving another party a go .

As usual our ward is a bit of gerrymandering; Seighford and Church Eaton are so close to one another. Only 3 candidates, 2 Tories, 1 who lives in the ward and 1 just outside. I suspect the Labour candidate who lives in Stafford itself has just been included to make up the numbers. Very sad.

That's my feeling. Persisted with Labour but the past 3 years really has not been pleasant at all.

Oh actually, it's the Labour and Co-operative Party. How do they differ?
Apparently, they're two different parties, the candidate sits on both panel's.

"Labour and Co-operative Party is a description used by candidates in United Kingdom elections who stand on behalf of both the Labour Party and the Co-operative Party. Candidates contest elections under an electoral alliance between the two parties, that was first agreed in 1927."

Not much choice for those of us in this ward. :ohno:

Local elections don't have space for party politics, it's about those that you think will help. At this level you don't really have career politicians.

Shame very few seem to care about the hospital :(

I’ve just found out that the elections in our area are no longer taking place due to only 2 candidates standing (both conservative), therefore they are uncontested.
Len Bates and Isobel Ford.

Same for the Parish Council too.

Well that's the Chase saved then

Enjoying a drop of red.
I'm unsure why the labour candidate in our ward does not actually live in it. I'll assume he's been parachuted in as non of the potential locals are left-wing enough for the modern labour party.

In local elections, candidates should be local, must be local, as the local issues to individual wards should be paramount.

The other two party candidates are equally a shower of shite, so what's the fcuking point.

At least UKIP have had the sense to realise that they had a snowball chance in hell of success.

I have to elect two councillors for my ward.

I can choose between two Conservative candidates, and two Labour candidates.

First Past The Post.

I have voted in every single election i have been eligible to vote in. I have voted for all sorts of things when i have been called to do so.

I even voted for more voting once, thinking that it might be a good idea to introduce just that maybe should we start thinking about a Proportional Representation kind of way forward?

Obviously that was a nutso idea.

It looks likely that soon we will be called upon to vote for unelected beaurocrats (eh?) using a more democratic system of voting that will be terribly undemocratic ( eh?) in an entirely undemocratic process of elections (what?)

Choose wisely.

As a part of my thesis I have been studying the work of Stanislaw Ulam and the Monte Carlo Method

Using this method I have discovered that the Conservatives will NOT do as badly as the media and politicians predict

You may use my research to place bets but I take no responsibility for any negative effects great wealth may have upon you
