Twix used to howl for hours at a time a few years back when I used to go out. I brought a camera and confined her to one room in house. The camera I brought had 2 way voice and sound detection so I would get an alert whenever she howled. Used to have the shout at her. She did stop howling but not for long.
In the end I left the house a 1-2 hours before I actually needed to leave and hide outside. As I was leaving I would tell her to settle down in her bed where I would leave a handful of treats and some of my dirty laundry .Soon as she howled I would run back in and tell her sternly “ no howling “ then leave straight away. If she settled down for say 20-30 mins I would come back and she would get a fuss and treats. I did this for about a week. The camera also helped me discover that the dogs down the road had also been howling and this would trigger twix. So a started leaving the radio or tv on.
After that week passed I would talk to her over the camera for the first 5-10 minutes after leaving the house. I did that for months ! Hasn’t howled since ! I gradually opened up all the doors so she has full access .
Now if I’m going out ,and she knows she’s not coming , she runs to her bed and awaits the treats.

Back at vets again today, still not eating and isn’t drinking very much , showing signs of dehydration.Showed vet a video of her attempting to eat … she doesn’t seem able to get the food to the back of her mouth then just gives up. Vet also witnessed it first hand when she offered her some treats. Vet suspects masticatory muscle myositis. Booked in again for Monday for bloods and fluids , possibly a more in depth throat exam while she asleep.vets also consulting with specialists. She just needs to get through the next few days and hopefully we will have some answers. Giving her paracetamol now incase she’s in pain

Bee was diagnosed with masticatory muscle myositis when she was a puppy, some 13 years ago.

I can't remember what medication she had but she's been ok since although we do have to make sure she's not doesn't chew things for too long.

Hope Twix is better soon.

Ahh I’m glad she made a recovery! Did your pup have trouble eating ?

Still about the same , although she does seem to perk up for a bit after she’s had some paracetamol .Still not eating though 😔
Hope she's better soon. It's terrible when your pet is poorly, and most vets treat them like they're a gold mine, not a very loved, cared for, part of your family.

We have 3 cats, the next time one gets I'll it will be a one way trip for them to the vets....last year cost me all my savings.....and I just don't have any more to give....it's heartbreaking.

Everyday that passes now I feel like I’m just letting her suffer! I’m dreading when her test results come back . I have a bad feeling it’s going to be something really serious… either that or the results will come back clean and she will just continue suffering until they find the problem! I don’t think I can allow that to happen 🥺

Two cats snook into the house today and ate her food, literally right by her , she just watched them…. Usually they wouldn’t have even managed to get into the garden !

She was struggling to eat for a day and puffed up the next day. She looked like a little Shar Pei.

We were at the caravan in Wales so it was a worrying emergency dash back to Ben at Parkhouse.

She was on chicken and rice for a while after that which she loved and didn't have to chew much.

Saw a different vet today to do bloods . This vet suspects pyrometra . Not convinced myself . Wish I could just see the same vet! So frustrating having to keep explaining the same stuff over and over again .

Someone’s pet passed away whilst we were there , there was a lit candle in the waiting room. As we got into car to leave the owners came out carrying him/her . Was very emotional. They were getting into the car next to me so I waited for them as they had their side door open . Another car pulled up in the spot the other side of me. The female driver was getting her dogs out of the boot and all I could hear was her screeching abuse. Didn’t take me long to realise she was mouthing off about me , very loudly. Shouting swearing that I was selfish and I was taking my time on purpose etc. she was very angry because she wanted my spot and clearly wasn’t impressed that she had to walk that extra meter or so. I chose not to rise to the occasion this time! So disrespectful.

tests didn’t reveal any cause for her illness, but did show how poorly she is. sickness has returned despite still being on medication, putting further strain on her already dehydrated body. She has continued to decline and her organs are failing
