Mundane facts about your day: Part Deux.

We're on the edge of the Big Snow event where I am and the weekly venture to Lidl was a fairly easy and picturesque affair this morning.

Rather less trouble than trying to get down to the one at the old SGI, I suspect.

When I got there, I spent a few minutes watching this chap valeting the Merc I parked near. He was carefully removing snow from the roof, screen and bonnet areas. He seemed to be finding enough items of interest for it to be worthwhile.

I did spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to find the 'winter car kit' that I relocated to the Shed at Easter, so that I could put it back by the front door for the winter. I found the de-icer OK, but the scraper eluded me for a few minutes, until I finally could see it. It's a white plastic thing and it is exactly the same colour as the wall that it was stood up against in the Shed.

I started the fire in the shed before I went and returned to a nicely warmed workspace. Shortly after, 'my' cat arrived and took up her seat by the fire. She will normally vacate the premises, should a visitor arrive, but one of the ones today was one that she will tolerate - he is here quite often and he is also very much the smallest of the ones she comes across - she looks at him with a very obvious "I could have you!" attitude.

Since I returned, I have not bought a single drink in a pub - there are various reasons for this. I brought a few bits and pieces over for various people and have done a few small jobs, etc. One of the donated drinks last night was from a chap who looked vaguely familiar to me and who declared that he hadn't seen me for years - eventually, we both realised that neither of us was actually who the other thought they were - but, it turned out that we did know each other, in fact, but had not actually met since 1980, at the latest. We have arranged to meet again in another forty years.

I have a chicken casserole bubbling away in the house - I have not told the cat. Winter food.

I am considering strolling down to the hardware shop for a bottle of chain oil, whilst things simmer along - for the €40 electric chainsaw that I treated myself to in Lidl - the chain and bar are probably worth the price on their own!

Hoping the 'smoke' I can see coming from the Premier Inn next door is from the heating vents , and not a fire....seems to be increasing. 🤔🤔

It's got guests in , but scaffolding all around it with works going on. Hoping workmen haven't left equipment on.....

Storm Bertie is certainly hitting Torquay with a vengeance right now. Rather scary winds and heavy rain hitting the wndows( and hoping the scaffolding on hotel next door doesn't come crashing down on my car.)
We're close to seafront so getting the brunt of it as it comes across the sea.

Bertie has blown 🎅 in early here . It's xmas day and 🎅 had a sack full of pressies at breakfast.

It wasn't advertised as a Christmas themed break when I booked, so a bonus with lots more going on.

Atrocious weather though , with gale force winds and lashing rain since midnight and forecast to last until tomorrow night.
So got a boot full of brollies and coats and too dangerous to walk out in , especially with hubby's heart condition.

Looks like settling for a dip in the pool sauna & steam room , hoping everyone else doesn't have the some idea.....

On a plus note though , got a nice lot of people in . Including a crazy group of Welsh ladies , ...I thought hubby was going delirious last night when he said he'd just seen La La, Tinky Winky, Po and Dipsy . until they appeared in the lounge bar to give us a Teletubbies performance 🤣.

Had a crazy ' Christmas night' evening meal with the hotel entertainment going off course with the Welsh contingent of 20 being in high spirits and insisting they could sing with the singer on the microphone .on the dance floor.

Pianist during the meal , then stay in candlelit restaurant/ entertainment room for evening singer & dancing .They livened the evening up though! But omg they're noisy!

Fetched my torch from the car incase of powercuts. Getting even rougher and wetter here. The carpark lamps are swaying. The big heavy entrance doors are blowing open.

Forecast this weather for tomorrow as well , so glad I've added another day onto holiday on Monday as might get one walkable out day then. 🙏

Looking forwards to New years Eve celebrations tomorrow :D

We'll go together, incase 1 of us gets lost!
I'll bring the cider ;)
I'm bringing gin...
@staffordjas doesn't drink Gin, or does she?
I'll bring extra cider for her.
So we're travelling down in your car then? Woooooooooo!
I like it ! 😄

Don't forget the oatcakes supplies as well for brekkie the morning after 😉. The one less hung over does the cooking 🤣

Celebrating....finally stopped raining , and winds dropped, for the first time since midnight Friday. YAY!

Haven't left the hotel since Friday afternoon, except to move the car to another space today in torrential rain as 2 coaches coming in tomorrow and they'll need my original spot .

Moved it while I could see a decent parking spot today to reverse into . Rather get soaked running to the car , and giving the bored guests stuck in the hotel lounge some entertainment with my reverse parking skills in this new car ,driving blind in lashing rain( luckily went smoother than expected. 🤣 )

Forecast dry and sunshine tomorrow for our last day , so hoping any floods down here would have gone by Tuesday's drive back.
