We're on the edge of the Big Snow event where I am and the weekly venture to Lidl was a fairly easy and picturesque affair this morning.
Rather less trouble than trying to get down to the one at the old SGI, I suspect.
When I got there, I spent a few minutes watching this chap valeting the Merc I parked near. He was carefully removing snow from the roof, screen and bonnet areas. He seemed to be finding enough items of interest for it to be worthwhile.
I did spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to find the 'winter car kit' that I relocated to the Shed at Easter, so that I could put it back by the front door for the winter. I found the de-icer OK, but the scraper eluded me for a few minutes, until I finally could see it. It's a white plastic thing and it is exactly the same colour as the wall that it was stood up against in the Shed.
I started the fire in the shed before I went and returned to a nicely warmed workspace. Shortly after, 'my' cat arrived and took up her seat by the fire. She will normally vacate the premises, should a visitor arrive, but one of the ones today was one that she will tolerate - he is here quite often and he is also very much the smallest of the ones she comes across - she looks at him with a very obvious "I could have you!" attitude.
Since I returned, I have not bought a single drink in a pub - there are various reasons for this. I brought a few bits and pieces over for various people and have done a few small jobs, etc. One of the donated drinks last night was from a chap who looked vaguely familiar to me and who declared that he hadn't seen me for years - eventually, we both realised that neither of us was actually who the other thought they were - but, it turned out that we did know each other, in fact, but had not actually met since 1980, at the latest. We have arranged to meet again in another forty years.
I have a chicken casserole bubbling away in the house - I have not told the cat. Winter food.
I am considering strolling down to the hardware shop for a bottle of chain oil, whilst things simmer along - for the €40 electric chainsaw that I treated myself to in Lidl - the chain and bar are probably worth the price on their own!
