Dogs and wife left today for Latvia, currently in a B&B near antwerp. Her card isn't working but I managed to order her a pizza in Dutch, apparently I did well 🤣

I fly out on Saturday with the little un, just hope all this nonsense at the airports calms down.
My wife just tried to board the ferry from Germany to Latvia, only to find I'd made her booking for a random date next February somehow 🤔🤣

May have lost 300 quid 😭

Mind you, it's easily done. I managed a similar trick booking a hotel in the lake district last year. Turned up and the room was booked for early this year.

Oh no 😭 Is she still able to sail on it ,and pay again , or has she got to re-book another one? Hope wife and dogs manage to get over to Latvia without too much hanging around .

She's rebooked, was dog friendly cabins left luckily. May be able to recover most of the money as luckily I did add for a flexible ticket as it was about 2% extra unlike eurotunnel where its more like 30%. Can't recover all but out of pocket maybe 100 euros after the higher cost of this crossing.

It's very easy to do, with time zones and overnight travel.

It's my habit to travel west on the ferry at half-past two in the morning - leaving home on a Tuesday, you really do have to make sure you that actually book the Wednesday ferry...

A day I could understand, not 7 months 🤣
In my defence it was booked after a 3am feed, but still completely confused how I got it so wrong.

You could imagine doing it in the US and booking the sixth of February, instead of the second of June.

In the unlikely event of me ever going there, I will only travel from the thirteenth of the month until the end - the first twelve days would be stationary time.

While getting Chemo yesterday I was given a large box of goodies, in a quality canvas shopping bag. This apparently is a charity set up a few years ago by a lady receiving Chemo who decided there were a number of items that would come in handy while you're bolted to the chair taking on cargo. So everybody taking Chemo gets one !! :)

Incredibly impressive list of items:
Quality steel flask,
Games,
Colouring book and crayons (includes a sharpener.)
Crisps and other munchies.
Squeeze ball.
Excellent multicompartment pill planning box (definitely needed.)
Quality pair of woolly socks.
Quality woolly bobble hat. (For the Yul Brynner moment ..OH, and anybody here who says they've never heard of Yul Brynner .. IT'LL BE .50 CALIBRE TIME.)
Lots of other things too, (full list on their website:)

I'm so impressed I went up and donated to their charity first thing this morning.

Today I shall be travelling to the Lake District with my favourite nephew. (Loads and loads of other nephews are available, this 1 is the best of the bunch)
He fancies going to Windermere, Neither of us have ever been near the place before, weather forecast is good. If you don't hear from me again, I've either fallen overboard off the boat we're going on, or, I've decided stay up there and become a hermit.

If you carry on into Bowness you'll find more shops and eateries. And Hawkshead is a cheap ferry ride over the water.
Hope you have a great day out, it's lovely up there.

I wouldn't know about shops or eateries but always thought Bowness to be better than Windermere for pubs.
I was last up that way in March 2019 with a night each in Hawkshead, Ambleside and Windermere. It was only £4.95 each way for Advance Single tickets between Manchester Piccadilly and Windermere. The council had closed the ferry for routine maintenance without giving advance notice so I had to get a taxi from Bowness to Hawkshead at much more than the "cheap" £1.

Along with Snowdonia the Lake District is my old stomping ground from yesteryear. Last time I was in the Lakes was 10 years ago following Julia Bradbury's path up Pillar.

Have a good time @Glam and enjoy the scenery. :)

Obviously not been to The Crafty Baa then? Oh hang on, it's far nicer than C&H so you probably have.

On my way to Luton, all being well ill be in Riga by 3pm. First time Eric has slept through the night, felt bad waking him!
Normal procedure is for an aircraft to receive a 'Cleared for take-off' message from Air Traffic Control, this one got 'Release the flying monkeys!'.

It looks like someone lost the keys and it took a while to hot-wire it.

Two hours late...

It seemed to go backwards and forwards on the ground a few times, like they were trying to bump-start it.
