When I was working in Stuttgart 20 odd years ago people there reckoned there were still old farmers out in the boondocks who kept special varieties of apple & pear trees to make a a cider perry mix. If I remember correctly they crushed a mix of two thirds apples & one third pears. Never did find any of it though.
I was actually told there was some still apple and pear cider drink available in
Certain places ( sounded a bit like scrumpy...we were being picked up at 9am the next morning for a 4 hour factory visit, so didn't pursue that any further....)

In 1386, John of Gaunt - son of Edward III, and erstwhile King of Castile, through right of marriage to Constance of Castile - campaigned for his rights at the head of a large and impressive army.

Most of whom deserted - not in small part because in Galicia, where they landed, there was only cider to drink. This did not go down very well.

Without ale to sustain them, most fled over the border to Gascony.

Finding only wine in Gascony, they fought tooth and nail, often literally fighting on the wharfs of Bordeaux, to secure any berth back to England.

That's how niche cider is.

I've just eaten a huge chilli bratwurst, it must have been at least a foot and a half long. Bloody delicious! I'd go buy more but i'm broke now :( Lidl in case you were wondering.

My husband has been working away and it occurred to me today I've hardly spoken to another adult face to face all week.
Infact I think I could probably count the number of people I've spoken to on one hand.
I think I need to get out more!

I think so, it was in that section of the fridges not with the usual bratwursts. They have the chilli ones and the regular flavour. We bought one of their big French sticks, cut it into 2 and still had sausage hanging over the edges.

Watching a TV film crew from my balcony. Waiting in anticipation of who or what is going to appear very soon...

Now quite a few civil guard & local cop cars are patrolling up and down outside our hotel as well...:hmm: :strange:

"And action" has just been heard....getting bored waiting now......probably all happen as I go inside to make a cuppa

Just filmed what looked like a film or program clip being filmed. 2 men in a big posh gold coloured car getting out , having a few words with each other, and walking towards our hotel entrance X about 50 takes so far. Still attempting to get that perfect few seconds of scene.
Wonder if I will appear on TV , standing filming them from my balcony above ( easily spotted by the row of undies on the washing line )

Let us know if you find out what it is - it could be one of next season's biggest draws.

Extra special care has been taken putting on my makeup tonight, film crew now setting up in the hotel foyer and we are about to go out...

Amazed how much setting up of equipment and hours of retakes goes on just to film a few seconds of a scene. No wonder it takes so much money and time to make a whole film!

In the mean time we have a traffic jam of taxis that can't get past the props on massive ladders lighting it up as though its brilliant sunshine.

I hope the curtains in your room are nice and thick, keep that light out? x
The lights have gone now.. More worried about hubby keeping tearing open the curtains as I come out of the bathroom starkers with our light on. He doesn't seem to think people can see in. Now worse with a camera crew hanging around their balcony with a perfect view straight in ...enough to break their cameras haha

Onto a good thing sitting at the bar. .Made friends with the barman and getting a few freebies...as he's mixing peoples cocktails , after he's poured it into the glasses he's giving me what is still left in the jug instead of slinging it. :pint::banana::D:)

@tek-monkey. Spotted a cheapo Spanish cider in local supermarket, so enjoyed drinking it on the balcony. Wasn't expecting it to be up to much as it was just called 'The good cider' Bloody lovely . Only 1.75 euro a bottle as well. :)
