A good experiment would be to stand for election on a ticket of "spending taxpayers' money to house the homeless" - and see how many votes you would get.

Even if you narrowed it down to "white English homeless"...
Yeah, but then they're just unemployed wastrels living off the state who need to get a job not sit on their arse costing the taxpayer money!

Locals who need help only ever seem to be recognised when there is a chance a non-local might get some. Any time before or after they are ignored at best and actively harassed at worst. I think some people just resent helping others.

At what point did we decide to turn against those who are less fortunate, doesn't the phrase "there but for the grace of god go i" go through folks minds anymore ?

Nope, most now think how dare someone less fortunate get help to live in a situation I wouldn't want to live in anyway. Give millionaire bankers a tax cut? Yeah no problem. Billions to political donors to hide in offshore accounts? Hell yeah! Give someone running from a war zone a fiver a day? Screw that why aren't we helping group x of random locals instead!

We have always been able to help our own, the fact we don't speaks volumes.

This is essentially how it works.

I think, If anybody has a problem with war refugees being homed in such a way and "our own homeless" not being looked after, they should campaign for it through the year rather than making a point when other people suddenly need help.

Your friendly local MP serves you 24/7 - 365 and would love to hear from you on all points. IT'S WHAT SHE GETS PAID FOR!
Is this a joke? She gets paid for doing feck all apart from helping Kenyans and doing an odd photo . She has done and will continue to do nothing for this town and the idiots will still continue voting for her. The only thing she serves is a cuppa to herself. At least Jeremy LePoshPantz tried to look like he was doing something for us dumb locals…!

If this is aimed at me then it's inaccurate. I've done loads for our homeless which is why my ire that Serco can glean millions providing for asylum seekers but there is no money to help people already in this country in less fortunate situations.

I remember contacting my Councillor a good few years ago about a man sleeping in the now demolished Stone Road bus stop. It was deep winter and freezing and I had literally no idea how to get this man help. The system was better then than now and it was still starved of funds. That's why I get annoyed about the millions we can find for asylum seekers housing but nothing for existing homeless. It's not right.

It was VERY OBVIOUSLY me saying what should be happening! And also very obviously she gets paid for doing what she doesn't actually do - serve her constituents!

Providing that the accomodation is of a satisfactory standard and safe to accommodate both single people and families, it seems an ideal location as far as I can see.

Is it being kept as it was when students had it? Several bedrooms off a communal kitchen/living space?

I wonder how many of the people who are complaining are against Ukrainian refugees coming into the country?

Yeah ukranians are kinda white, so obviously not as bad. Plus they're being attacked with missiles we didn't sell, can't have that!
Some would argue that they never wanted to come here, didn't come illegally and are escaping an actual war. Whereas many of the others are illegally in this country and just hoping to stay as long as they can play the system.

Unfortunately a large number of so called 'asylum seekers' are just economic migrants looking for a better life. Nothing wrong with that but why anyone would transit illegally through numerous rich, secure and far better states than this one to claim asylum here is a mystery to me. Wonder if its to do with our totally shambolic system whereby failed asylum seekers can illegally stay for decades constantly appealing?

Germany has a far more efficient and transparent asylum processing system and approx 40% of people who claim asylum there are refused. The UK can't even sort out accurate stats, we have no clue who is or isn't in this country, legally or illegally. :(

Best thing to do is to put them all back in a boat, tow it into French waters and sink it.

Obviously.
